money questions..

ok. your all gonna hate me, but oh well.. haha. wats the best way to invest $1000- $1500 into my car for performance.. liek what to buy. etc...

nick1 04-29-06 09:22 PM

racing beat exhaust, and upgraded carb (if you aren't fuel injected)

dean23 04-29-06 09:23 PM

how much am i gonna get out of that?

aussiesmg 04-29-06 09:24 PM

Tires, Suspension, suspension, brakes, Ignition, then if there's any left exhaust.

Quality tires, Shocks, springs, poly bushings (except upper control arms), RB front sway bar, quality brake pads, replace or rebuild bad calipers, lines etc, Quality brake fluid, RB exhaust.

Search 2GCDFIS for cheap ignition, there are other options but none match the bang for the buck IMO.

Then and only then find a good carb you like. (Mikuni for my stock port rocks)

IMHO

wats the best to do for speed or acceleration?

aussiesmg 04-29-06 10:45 PM

13BT see Rotaryshack in vendors section.....but I'd do suspension and brakes first....

KeloidJonesJr. 04-29-06 10:48 PM

Port?

aussiesmg 04-29-06 10:51 PM

Not for $1500, even 13BT will be difficult but he can buy it for $1300

alex_the_hipple 04-29-06 10:53 PM

Buy a V-8 powered car. I'm not flaming but after looking around (at prices and what-not) it doesn't seem like you're going to get all that much more "speed" out of these cars for $1500. If you were only willing to spend that much RiGHT NOW then that would be just fine (if you really want the car to perform you're going to spend more later) and you should probably work on the suspension first (if your car is running) because it's going to give you the biggest performance gain. Replacement of old, worn out pieces would be where I would start and then I would move on to performance shocks/springs and probably either a big brake kit or a brake swap from a second gen. This (the 2nd gen brake swap) would also allow you to more easily find a larger set of wheels on which you could run a better set of tires. Doing this would make your car handle much, much better than it does now.

dean23 04-29-06 11:07 PM

ok.. so ive been lookin for a lil bit online and have some q's..... intake.. a new weber carb system (48 IDA ) costs 500... 165 horses.. but i have to street port my engine... worth the money?

2nd gen brake swap... how much do u think thats gonna cost? cuz i am lookin to do something along those lines...

and then im planing to buy a suspension kit off RB for about 500 i think...

but i am looking to put more money into my car, but i want to get some fun out of it while i make that money.. haha

dean23 04-29-06 11:44 PM

actually.... should i just get my engine street ported for now?

dbragg 04-29-06 11:55 PM

im doing the 2nd gen brake upgrade heres a list of stuff and cost:

kit from respeed---$175
ebay special drilled and slotted brembo blanks(yes..yes...i know..uughh)---$120
calipers and hubs----$50 (its hard to find that cheap unless you know where to look)
hawk brake bads--$50
new front bearings and grease seal---$20
brake lines that have to be custom made---$75
4x114 to 5x114 adapters--$100 (if you have 4x110 itll make things more difficult/pricey)
wheels(i have two sets or Work wheels but these are the ones im running for now)---$400
tires(BFG GForce sport)---$320

total: $1310.....wow, i have way more into my car than i thought. almost as much as i paid for the actual car:D

you could cut down the price a bit buy wheel choice, rotors, pads, and tires. i wouldnt cheap out on any of those except MAYBE the wheels. im not even 100% happy with my tires and i havent eve tried them yet. i already want Advans;)

dean23 04-30-06 12:04 AM

damn... see i not ready to put that much money into wheels and such.. im more concerned on make my car go, not stop.. hahaha. and i really dont care about the appearance. right now i want to put money into the engine\exhaust. but i dont know what to buy where to buy it or how to install it.. haha

That's $3K alone without intake, carb and exhaust.

dean23 04-30-06 12:11 AM

http://www.mazdarx7engines.com/porting.html check that place out...

maybe i just misunderstood wat that site was telling me..

mr_ouija 04-30-06 12:13 AM

You forgot this is not on your motor in your car, this is on top of the cost of one of their motors.

Their motor is about $1600, then add Porting on top of that.

dean23 04-30-06 12:20 AM

i figured thats what they would do.... but i had my hopes up... haha. there has to be a cheaper way to do it tho...

aussiesmg 04-30-06 12:20 AM

Best deal is still Rotaryshack, Robert gives a 12 month warranty for $3k for a ported core.

dean23 04-30-06 12:23 AM

is the 3k really worth it tho? or are there cheaper ways to get the power?

LokiRx7.1 04-30-06 12:35 AM

Buy a Honda, or a Toyota. Then DD it for awhile, you will save about 10K in gas money VS. what you will spend in the 7, then come back and ask us how to invest 10K :) :)

aussiesmg 04-30-06 12:39 AM

That's about right.......lol

dean23 04-30-06 12:42 AM

rofl.. how bout this... ill ride the bus to skool for the rest of highschool... and make people pick me up... and invest wat would have been my gas money... haha.. its actually a good idea, but i had trouble going 3 days without driving my car.. :(

dean23 04-30-06 12:44 AM

and i get about 21mpg in my 7.. ha
