Mix Adjust - Carb Troubles

when i removed the rats nest from my 83 i took the time to remove the carb and clean it up inspect the parts and reinstall it... scince then i have been struggling to get the adjustments on it just right. nothing serious, but i can tell im just not getting all the umph out of it... can anyone tell me the best way to adjust the idle mix for best performance... and, now that i have all of the emissions off does that mix screw adjust the mix overall?

Make sure that your secondaries are opening fully. You might want to consider switching to mechanical secondaries if you haven't already.

Once I got all my rats out I just played with the timing(leading and trailing) , idle, and mix adjustments. I had to keep going from one to the other till I has happy. Can't remember the timing marks for sure though. Just keep playing till you find the sweet spot, it's there!

don't forget to adjust the AP too.

when the car is idling, turn the screw out until it starts bogging then back it in a half turn and your set. alot of people do it in reverse but having a wideband i see the difference. these cars are alot happier when there is a richer idle mix.

oh, and if you are adjusting and there is no difference then you need to either lower your idle more or adjust timing. if timing is off it can create a big difference in everything. trust me, i've fought the timing gods for quite a while and finally won. LOL
