missing fitting
Hey guys 1980 RX-7 new radiator. I noticed this fitting is missing. I assume it's either a level switch or a temp sending unit. Can you tell me what it is and whether I need this?
Thanks |
Would have been #2 Water Temp Switch. 1980 Non-Cali Federal builds used them, connected to B-21 on the wiring diagram which for reasons known only to God and Mazda was left off the locator diagram.
Cali & Canadian builds didn't have them; just a jumper wire in that position. As to whether you need it... it connects the ECU to the Vacuum Control Valve and the Ignitor box. On the Cali build, it's just jumpered straight across, so it probably had a function in controlling emissions when the engine was cold or helping for a faster warm-up, probably by preventing trailing vac advance until the engine warms up & gating the trailing spark. I would just bypass it with a jumper wire to the two bullet connectors that go to it. |
