Mint condition 1st gen rex.... ?? $$

out of the blue i find a 1st gen with original paint, stickers, books, exhaust, springs, EVERYTHING looks like it just came out the factory. only 1 tiny ding on the side of the front bumper. This guy wants $3400 for it.. 90k original miles..What do yall think its worth.. and would it be wise for me to get it.

WackyRotary 01-20-03 11:54 AM

Well, I bought a '84 with 78000 ORginal miles for $300. Ofcourse the engine was in need of a rebuild. :D

Maguire 01-20-03 12:07 PM

that seems like about the average price for a car in that condition. Did you check it over REALLY well? I.e. look for rust in the storage bins? If its rust free and it doesnt have ANY problems. Ide said talk him down to 3k and it might be worth it if its an GSLSE. If its a 12a, maybe. That's still pretty expensive.

its all about how much you want it. i payed more than that for my 79, but it was all original, had all recipts, window sticker etc., no bumps or bruises except the driver seat has a small tear in it, and it had 38,600 miles on it.

 too much love here

i'd say its a touch high. bring him down to at least 3k. then you have to decide if its worth it to you.

That sounds high. I picked up a cherry 85GSL in SF for $1700 3 mos. ago. 49k on the meter. Of course, I'd want more for it now that I've done some work on it.

I paid 3700 for my 85 GS.... 54K on the odo, original EVERYTHING... The tires had been replace in 1990... 10 thousand miles ago... nice paint, NO RUST... that price sounds awesome.... If you don't want it, post the guy's info here, so an enthusiast can pick it up...

its a 85'

I paid $5500 Canadian for my 84 GSL-SE. All original with 117000 Kilometers and brand new tires on it. Did I get ripped off? I don't think so, I love the thing to death and I only know of one other 1st gen in the city thats nicer (but its only got 45000 Kms on it, and the guy is the original owner). It now has a full Mindtrain 2.5" autocross exhaust and a front airdam on it, which puts it up around 7500 after everything is said and done. Thats for a very lightly modded GSL-SE. If you think its worth it, buy it, but don't be surprised when you find little quirks that make you regret it for about half a second (god knows I did).

i payed 3200 for a 85 gs with 119,000 miles on it, it had 2 week old tires, new rims, rb exhaust, no rust, cherry paint, cd player, and i got the different headers the original rims, service manuals, oh yeah, and it has tokico shocks and eibac springs. i dont think that was that bad of a deal, its my first 7 and im glad that i got one, i love them too much, so it was definatly worth it for me

851stgen12a 01-21-03 10:03 PM

I dunno, very nice 1st gens are getting rare. I paid $2350 for my near mint 85 Gs with 96,000 miles. I would pay that much for a good car in a heart beat!!

But of course you still need to try and talk him down....

Rotaryhaven 01-22-03 11:55 PM

I have a very nice 1979 Yellow RX-7 that I wouldn't take less than $5000 for it. It is mint and has everything you can think of. It was restored professionally and does not have a MAACO or south of the border paint job. Almost everything is Racing Beat, i.e exhaust, intake, wires, and the interior alone cost more than $1600 to do. Wheels are 15x7 Kosei and I am yanking my reman Mazda Factory Engine for a 13B. It has more than $13K in her. I know I will never recover that money but she is better than new and I make some of the new cars look bad. So if the car is has good quality looks and resto done it is worth the money. If it looks like a "hooptie" then talk him down. Be reay to show the cash and not waste the guy's or girl's time.

Just my 2 cents
