metering pump
what the hell is a metering pump, where is it and what(if anything) do i need to maintain it?
Thanks y'all |
it is the pump that sends oil to your carb so that your apex seals do not fry out and crack on ya, If they do, there goes your motor.
|
is there a seperate tank for oil for the metering pump?
|
it bleeds off your engine oil. thats why you cant run synthtic in yor rex. It dosent burn clean.

I checked mine as it was leaking and all the nots were finger loose. Tighten them up and no more leak. I might take it off and run premix but not sure.

Thanks to everyone who replied

You can eliminate the stock OMP and replace it with this aftermarket piece that allows you to use a seperate tank for it. So you'd fill the new OMP tank with 2-stroke engine oil, so you get the convenince of having and OMP and the benefits of premixing 2-stroke.
youcan find ordering info and stuff here I'm planning on doing one of these on my FD soon. |
Or you can mix your own fuel. That is what I do. I use about 1/2 ounce to a gallon with the OMP and I hear you should do about 1 ounce to 1 gallon w/o it. MMO is also nice to run sometimes, just to keep things clean.

I little advise from my own experiance. If the Oil Metering Pump lookz like it is running fine... LEAVE IT ALONE! Those of you that dont know, The r0tary engine is basicly a 2 cycle engine, this is why we have to keep a eye on the oil level. The r0tary enegine burns oil when mixed with fuel. The oil metering pump workz by valvez that are controled by a bar that goes from the oil metering pump to the carb. When you mash the gas the bar is pulled up on and allows more oil flow. The oil then flows up to the carb through two plastic pipes that are pretty brittle these days, once it reaches the carb it mixes in with the fuel and like Pittdp said it lubricates the apex seals. When i first got involved in r0taries i thought that the rotars just spun in a puddle of oil and slung it around the housings...boy I was way off. :] If you do decide to take the Oil Metering pump off for whatever reason. Buy a new gasket for it, and when u go to put it back on dont tighten the bolts to much just sug them, it does take much at all. No matter what you do with the oil metering pump it will always have a slite leak, even if u purchused a new one after a few months it will have a slite leak too. Just my 2 cents
