Metal brake pad clips
Hey all,
Yesterday I started getting a grinding noise on my passenger side rear. Today I pulled off the wheels, checked the brakes and found the top metal clip on my inside brake pad missing. Because of this the pad wasn't sitting properly and there was literally NO pad left only the shoe, and the rotor was grinding against the metals shoe I have extra pads, but I'm wonderin if anyone has the part # or can tell me where I can find extra clips? The dealer could only find these clips in a hardware kit which costs 50 bucks. Thanks, F- |
they usually come boxed with the pads.

I think you're talking about a drum rear end. Drum brakes use shoes, that are similar to disc brake pads. The clips that you need can be ordered from your local auto parts store, such as Kar Parts, NAPA or AutoZone. As for the shoes, your auto parts store may have them in stock.

Nope disc (GSL-SEs are all disc)
These are the metal "top hat" clips that hold the shoe in place (top and bottom). Looks like they may come in the Mazda brake kit, but they look like they are worth all of 50 cents. There must be someone who makes these or a specific mazda part #. Cheers F- |
part number 64-791 from victoria british is all you need.Comes with a few other things you'll probably lose/break when doing a brake job.

Cheers F- I've been keeping an eye out for a source for the springs in case one breaks, and also the shims (over $50.00 front, and again for the rear). No luck so far. (In Canada.) Let us know if you find a source, please. For part numbers, you could check the microfiche at Mazdaformance: http://www.mazdaformance.com/rx7.htm Very useful for part numbers and blow-up diagrams. :) -John |

They don't come with pads, you have to buy the hardware kit that i gave the part number for in my previous post.
