mazda rx7 fb with s2000 motor

has it ever been done please some one show me a picture a website or tell me something.. its nothing personal with the rx7 i blew my 12a in my 83 gsl and i have a 07 s2000 motor im dropping in.. i have not seen a picture on google or no trace of it being done.... will i be the first to do it? thanks guys

Siraniko 05-26-12 05:14 PM

What for? S2000 motor is overrated. If you want that motor, buy a S2000. Its that simple. One of these days, rotary gods will punish those with piston crap conversion lol.

RotaryEvolution 05-26-12 07:30 PM

i somewhat agree, it's a lot of work for what? even if i had the motor sitting around i would contemplate selling it and just buy a V8.

IN fLORIDA you can find that engine between 600 to 1300 bux

RxTex 05-26-12 08:15 PM

Buy a piece of glass. The Honda motor will make a good coffeetable.

Then, seize the oppurtunity and do a 13b swap.

Your car will be better if it has a soul.

RE-TurboFB 05-26-12 08:25 PM

should be easy! If you can measure, cut and weld. Thats a really spendy swap for such a platform. SR20DET would save you alot of cash.

As for the "its alot of work for what" comment... lol. Well a 12A is what 100HP and the S2000 is what 240HP.. So the "what" part would be 140HP???? That would be around 140% more power output??

What do people get FB's?? either they like the vintage car or because they cant afford the car they want.. I got my FB for $190, But what I really wanted was a FD.. So I have updated the performance the best I can.

All in my opinion..

I LOVE THE ROTARY!!!! As a race car rotary all the way! But for a poor boy with a street drivin car you can get alot more power with less smog and way less fuel with pistons.

Mazda RX-7 EFINI TYPE 05-26-12 08:50 PM

I'm a rotary purist myself. However, I would prefer this swap to a V8. And these motors have crazy potential. But even in stock form, the s2k motor will make that FB fly. At least the car will maintain the smooth high revving nature it was born to have. :). I say go for it. Screw SR20's, they have nothing on the s2k motor.

im bought to walk to florida lol.. people in vegas would pay top dollar for those motors

RotaryEvolution 05-26-12 09:18 PM

i heard you trip over them on the sidewalk down there..

axm203 05-26-12 10:13 PM

I believe the OP asked whether or not the swap has been done, or if someone can provide a link or info of any kind.. Nobody gives a shit about what purist have to say about pro's and con's, Im sick of seeing that on forum's. Its HIS car, HIS money, HIS choice

MX3 05-26-12 10:19 PM

I agree. The car belongs to him. To each his own. Have fun and do share with us when and if you do decide to do it.

misterstyx69 05-26-12 10:33 PM

some guy was gonna put one in an FC and ended up selling the project.
But hey, there is no word such as NO in this game.It can be done..just can you do afford it?

RotaryEvolution 05-26-12 11:00 PM

do it then, honda powered RX7!

you could probably power a car with 1000 computer fans if you were inventive enough... that is why these threads are stupid, there isn't really that many people who are going to be super impressed by an engine swap so the question is moot.

Sgt.Stinkfist 05-26-12 11:27 PM

anything can be put in anything... and chances are, your not the first. Good luck, and im always curious how people choose to go about swaps :)

Someone suggested a Jet Engine in the back of the car,But I quickly pointed out that it would melt the hatch glass!..not to mention drown out the stereo.(you know those Cassette players don't put out much power anyways!)..J/k!

boostaholic_13b 05-26-12 11:45 PM

I have thought about the s2k swap... similar characteristics to a rotary no bottom end torque and lots of rpm range plus they make damn good power boosted stock block or built. Each to his own. I would love to see this one done. Now if I could just justify a 1jz swap....

cfamilyfix 05-27-12 12:00 AM

I use to auto cross and watch all the s2k's run the course in first gear and thought the only other car that could do it like that was a rx7...so I agree that the characteristics are similar, but as for cost, just cause you have the motor already doesn't mean it will be cheap....fabrication costs money...in fact I think you need the speedo cluster to complete the swap and a flash or two from hondata...anything can be done with enough time and money...IMO find a gutless datsun roadster to put the s2k motor in or an old british car, it will shine there. RX7's deserve a rotary...it's what makes them special in the first place. I'm not a purist by any means, but I feel you would enjoy a rotary in your rx more than a s2k motor. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Siraniko 05-27-12 09:45 AM

Hell if i do a swap, 2jz is my #1 choice. Full front clip jspec swap can do over 400 hp

j9fd3s 05-27-12 11:23 AM

my friend did an S2000 AE86 swap, the honda engine is BIG. its really tall too. so getting the thing to fit might be fun.

stock for stock, the USDM 2JZ will make more power than the JDM version ;)

Siraniko 05-28-12 11:23 AM

No doubt but its cheaper to get a full front clip than run around to complete a puzzle

diabolical1 05-29-12 03:20 AM

sounds interesting and fun, but all i have to say is ... marco?

PK_12A 05-29-12 03:59 AM

Sounds like an interesting proposition, going for the F20 or F22 version?

I was going to mention this as well. The F20/F22 is a popular swap with the AE86 guys. The FB (and FC for that matter) engine bay and trans tunnel has quite a bit more room than the 86 (I'm currently building a T2 AE86 and was amazed how much smaller the bay is, doesn't look like it at first glance) so it should be easier to fit in a FB. The biggest concern is getting it to sit low enough in the engine bay to clear the hood. The 86 guys usually space their crossmember down about an inch (they use aluminum blocks between the frame rails and crossmember) and notch both the crossmember and oil pan to get it to fit.

If it fits in a 86 it'll fit in a Rx7, personally if I were to do a piston swap it would be to get more torque so the F20/22 wouldn't be on my list, but it'd be cool to see either way :)

Sh00bs 06-06-18 09:58 AM

bumping an old thread. picked up a wrecked s2k from a buddy for 1k with a good engine (00' so f20). tired of the 13b pport in my street fb... too loud, shakey and "racey" if you will for a street car
going to give pistons a try, meh my car... shoot me : P

this winter im planning a fc rear subframe conversion for independent rear. why an fb instead of an fc/fd? bc i cant afford a better / more expensive rx7 ? lol get outta here with that shyt,, the nice car is a 91 skyline gtr.
why an fb though? lightweight yo, and ive done a LOT to this already, t3 coils all corners, tii front brakes, flares, custom exhaust through my hatch, louvers, external oil cooler, roll bar, battery relocate, custom strut bars, rb tri point front... learned on this car over the past couple years and i'ts had a stock 12a, half bridge 13b and pport 13b, time for a change. maybe 6 years later someone has actually put one of these in a sa/fb by now
