manifold pressure gauge
I was thinking about getting a manifold pressure gauge. I know nothing about 'em, but i kind of wanted to keep an eye on it in order to monitor my fuel consumption.
can i get one for my carb'd 12a? if so, what's the install like? |
*bump*
anyone? bueller? |
Ummm...
I don't think i get what you mean...hehe. umm...like do you wanna see oil pressure? cuz your rex should already have a gauge for that one. mine does. umm...an Air/Fuel Meter would give you decent idea of what's goin on in there (fuel wise). that's what i'm gonna do pretty soon.

will an A/F meter work w/ a carb'd 12a?
|
I dont think your gonna need one of those(manifold pressure guage).Arent those for fuel injected cars only.I remeber that the alternative to a Air flow sensor is a Manifold pressure sensor.

I've never heard of a manifold pressure gauge on a carbed car. Get the A/F meter.

generally speaking the only cars that need a manifold pressure gauge is those that might have POSATIVE manifold pressure ever. so... cars with boost. Otherwise the most your ever going to see is a hair under the 0psi mark on a boost gauge. They do have vac gauges, but there's really no reason for any of us to use them.
An a/f meter might better suit you since you have more control over your mixture than you do the amount of vac. you're pulling ;) --matt |
I'm looking at installing one of these Boost/Vac gauges (the first one in the pic) in my custom dash board. I won't really need it untill sometime in late 2002 or early 2003 when I actually do my custom SC setup, but since the dash is going in ths winter I figured why not do it now?

I was thinking about putting one in too since I'm going to have to get a gauge pod for the a/f meter, I might as well get a dual pod and a boost gauge now, so I'll have it when I go turbo...
ESP if I can find a nice cheap one on e-bay ;) --matt |
Yeah, doesn't hurt to plan ahead.
I'm actually building a completely new custom dashboard this winter, so either I install the guage now or leave a hole for it and install it when I do the SC. Since I don't especially want a 2 5/8" hole in my dashboard for a year or so, it just makes sense to install it now even though the Vac reading is essentially useless. I figure I can get a 5" Electronic speedo and tach, a 2 5/8" electronic Water Temp and mechanical Boost/Vac, and 2 1/16" electronic Oil Press, Voltometer and Fuel Level, and I have room for one more 2/16" guage. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe oil temp? |
oil temp would be a good idea since you're gonna be running boost sooner or later. Of course, the Summit digital a/f gauge happens to be 2 & 1/16" :) That also might be a good idea.

I was thinking about an A/F too, but since I'm planning on a Wolf3D EMU, I won't really need gauges to tune with...
Hmm... Well, I still have some time to think about it. While I'm asking: Has anyone here ever used AutoMeter Phantom gauges? |
