okay...my dad came over today and helped take out the stuck oil plug while i was at work...then my dad thought he was doing me a favor by taking out the tranny fluid...then he calls me..."hey son, where do i pour in the tranny fluid"...:eek:

i've read its hard to get to it...but i did see a link somewhere where a guy rigged up a little compressor to a bottle of tranny fluid with a hose coming out the top...does anyone have that link...

unless you guys have a better way of getting fluid back in the tranny and what name brand you use...let me know...

at this rate with my dad helping so much i'll never get to drive the car...

I believe you can use little oil pumps and jimmy rig that to the can and then attach a tube to the end of the pump...

If nothing works, I'm sure you can hold at least a cup of tranny oil in your mouth... :D

The plug to put the tranny fluid in is on the drivers side of the tranny. Its a square headed bolt. Also, a bit of advice for next time just so you know (even though I know it was your Dad), make sure to take the fill plug out first so that you dont drain the fluid, then have no way to get it back in. That applies for trannies, differentials, etc. To get the fluid in, In the past Ive just used a section of hose and squeezed the bottle and put it in. I also have a pump that Ive used to do it, that makes it a lot easier. Ive also heard of guys just getting a long section of hose and a funnel and going down from under the hood.

As for the brand, I personally use Red Line, but just about any good 90 weight synthetic is great in the older trannies we have. Youll need just over 2 quarts (2.1 to be exact).

Yea they got neat little pumps at the auto parts store in the gear oil section. They screw right into the top of the bottle.

I thought the fill plug was on the passenger side?? Hmm, it has been a long time scence I had to do this on a stock tranny. But I'm one of those cheap guys that used a long section of hose to get the tranny fluid in there. If you do it this way just make sure the OD of the hose is smaller than the ID of the fill hole. Take the plug to the parts store to be sure.

The fastest way to fill it is with the tranny out of the car.. :D Oh, and don't feel bad... my dad is the one responsible for the grenaded 12A that came out of my car...

I helped ScrapFC change his dif fluid and I think tranny fluid too. He used the long hose and funnel method. He held the funnel and I was under the acr watching for leaks. It worked pretty well.

RedLine MT-90.. expensive but definitely worth it :) You need 2 quarts, fill it until it comes out the fill hole a bit... should be about exactly enough.

Yeah, easiest way is long hose and funnel method.

yeah my dad was the one you actually sealed the pait of my old 12a, he ran it up a hill untill the water o rings blew. He later admitied to not ever looking at the guages.

The moral of the story, I dont let ANYONE work on my car. Not my friends and not my family. I'm too scared that their gonan screw something up.

I trust only a few select friends/family and my own hands (and feet) when it comes to working with my rex. I cannot leave the keys with anyone that I don't know!

I've had my rex wrecked by my dad as well :(
But money came outta his pocket, so I didn't complain that much!

Woah woah woah there man...Ive never even left the keys with anyone, lol. The few times (two) people have driven my car was when I was in it. And only twice did one of those people drive it by himself (and only a block away to the store), but hes my friend of 12 years, so I trust him.

i use a section of hose attached to the end of the bottle, and squeeze away. it takes some time and effort, but it works. i like the idea someone said about going through the engine compartment. i might have to try that next time.

I brought a friend over who I thought knew a bit about cars.... He was supposed to help me take the carb off.

In the end, due to his brutally horrible methods, he broke one of the electrical connectors, practically ripped the OMP off, and bitched the entire time about my car being a piece of "japcrap".

Let me tell you he never came over to MY house again
