Magnaflow XL mufflers?
 

Would the XL stainless steel series hold up to a rotary? I need my car to look and sound as stock as possible so I plan on going with an oval single inlet and dual outlet magnaflow XL muffler with a magnapack right after my header collector. The part# on the XL muffler is 13983 it looks like a stock muffler with a 2 1/4 in. and dual 3in outlet. I hope this will quiet up the car? Just got BUSTED by the sound police. He said they have been getting complaints about a red car that sounds like Bumblebee on steroids terrorizing the streets. His exact words! LOL! Anyways I need to get this done by the 13th. Dude gave me a summons.

well, you'll need a couple magnaflows then. one won't do it. i have just one w/ rb headers. it's awesome, but still loud as hell.

Thats why I'm putting the magnapack right after my collector. in theory I'll be using 2 mufflers. What series are you using?

I've been wondering about the magnapack as well. I have a cherrybomb on my car as a presilencer for now, but that thing won't last long. Please post back with results.

I should be getting the magnapack delivered on monday. I'm still searching for the best place to get the muffler so far $93 is the cheapest. I would like to get it locally if I can but no luck yet. Let me know what you guys think about the muffler #13983.

Which Magnafkow would have the deepest tone? Does anyone know the model #?

I went out on a limb and bought this magnaflow muffler.

I'll be using it with a RB Single outlet header, and pre-silencer.

I didn't realize how big the tips were when I bought it. Kind of ricey.
Has anyone else tried this one?

Hate to tell you this but that setup is gonna be LOUD, hope that's what you want. Read around on magnaflows, you'll see what I'm talking about. Now if you had a turbo and cat then maybe not too bad--but with a NA, header, and presilencer you'll need earplugs on the highway.

I'm looking at the magnaflows for a turbo application and I question how loud it will be. Directfreak is using two of these mufflers in series on a turbo and is doing good on sound.

Poop on me. That's ok, I'll get a freaking RB muffler even though I don't like the way they sound.

I know I'm alone in this, but I heard a RB exhaust on someone's car and it just wasn't my cup of tea. I like the fact that they are quiet, but it reminds me of a giant duck quacking. But I'll get one anyways, because I need a quiet exhaust.

I don't want to bash that muffler, but that's what I think. And my crap is worth more than what I think.

I would check in with the Magnaflow folks. I think that they only pack the mufflers that have an inlet of 2 1/2" r larger with stainless steel. The other ones are packed with a glass like product that over heats and burns out.

You're probably right. I didn't look close enough, but it doesn't say anywhere that they have STAINLESS STEEL packing. I better sell it on ebay unused rather than having it installed only to take it off again.

They DO have stainless steel packing. It says so on the box.

I am runnung the 13983 muffler and lov it but is loud even after a 16 inch resonator in the system. I am considering a 20 inch resonator if I don't sell.

Seadog, thats the muffler I was thinking of using along with a magnapack right after my header collector. How loud is it and what resonator are you using?

i run a magnaflow and it sounds nice...i used a glasspack as a presilencer and it isnt loud AT ALL.

I suggest using the longest presilencer/resonator you can find. I have a 26" (might be 30", can't remember right now) cherry bomb as a presilencer. My car isn't too loud. Not on my standards anyway. At idle its a nice deep tone thats not so loud that you have to yell at the person next to you. You can have a normal conversation with someone up to about 3000-4000rpm.

my car is completely stock,if i get just a magnaflow muffler #13983 would i have the sound police on me?Also is that all i need to replace my stock muffler?All i have to do is buy the magnaflow and take it to a muffler shop and they can switch them out right?

Yeah, just take it to a muffler shop.

I'll bet you'd be ok with the sound police as long as you have the stock exhaust manifold and cats.

When my parts car ran, it didn't even have a muffler and it wasn't all that loud. Of course, if you start driving really hard it's going to attract a lot of attention.

Harleys are going to be much louder than your car.
But I could be wrong.

i replaced a racing beat rear muffler with a 2.5" straight thru 6" round 18" long magnaflow. took it to the track, drove 160 minutes full throttle per weekend. for 10 weekends. plus daily driving street stuff. the magnaflow took the heat, didn't burn out. sounds like it was new. still have it and plug it into the racecar when i rev her in the driveway.

as far as the magnapack goes, i'd use two under the car as dual presilencers then a main muffler at the rear. 2" rear muffler for the noise conscious, 2.5" rear muffler otherwise.

The other thing to look for is an offset inlet. My exhaust guy has done 2 identical systems on 2 first gens the only thing different were that mine had an offset-in center out 2.5" magnaflow and the otherone had an straight through 2.5" magnaflow. Let me tell you, there is no comparison. Mine has the deepest yet most quiet sound, I have no interior and can still have a conversation up to 3-4000 RPM without shouting too loud. The really nice thing was that the car also sounds really mean when you give it but again it isn't too loud, still street legalish;) I have no pre-silencer, and I don't need it. Just make sure the muffler has at least an 18" body.

Umm, it's the stainless one thats got a 18" body, offset in and center out. The piping is 2.5" the magnaflow number is 14256.
