MagnaFlow Specs and powergain...
 

I am looking at the Magnaflow Stainless 2.5" Muffler. I have a stock 1985 12A and am wondering what this muffler has done you guys in terms power gain, gas mileage, interior noise, and price. A muffler shop quoted me at $170-200 for 2.5" piping, Muffler, tip, and Install. Is this reasonable?

Also is the non-stainless muffler any worse/better? Thanks

reasonable price. i got mine done for around that. go with 2 of them or wake up the city-- yes that bad. Great power increase with a header and i highly recommend Magnaflow

when you say non stainless do you mean not polished? or one made of something other than stainless steel?

yeah sorry, non polished. So with 2 did it cost about the same? Would silencers be better/cheaper/effect flow/sound?

Do you know which magnaflow muffler they are giving you withthat price? My magnaflow muffler on my 1st gen was 130 bucks itself......I LOVE IT TOO!! The sound is awesome but just FYI...you will be setting of car alarms LOL MWHAHAHAH!

my shop bill was 200 exactly, i did already have my prescilencer tho.

If you find the muffler you want, plug the part # in eBay, that's where I bought both of mine. Cheaper than any where else I could find.

kgray's exhaust note is one of the best I've heard, but his mother thinks it's too loud. lol

+1 if you buy from the muffler shop you are buying it basically retail (if you want to call it that)...ebay prices are usually wholesale prices (aka cheaper prices). Same here i got my magnaflow off of ebay as well!!!

Definately go with a magnaflow. I have nothing but good things to say about them. But for your car to be quiet enough, go with a 5x8 oval with an 18" body. That with a presilencer of some sort (mabey a 4" round magnaflow, 18" body) should net you a real nice sound and not be too loud.

I'll have 2, one mounted on each side of the car like a 2nd gen. I could go into the details of why this is possible, but the short story is that I have a custom mounted fuel cell. Ill bring the exhaust in one side, then put a U on the exit and go back to the bumper from there. Either that or put a 90 on it and have it exit just behind the rear wheel, no tips and hidden. I haven't decided on whether I'll run a presilencer yet or not. Have to see how loud it is, but I think the reversing flow of the muffler will quiet it down a lot.

Its pricey but will look great on a 7. Stock looking but agressive at the same time, much like a RB muffler.

the only crappy thing about their mufflers with tips already on there, is that they only offer them as 2.25" inlets ... if they had atleast 2.5" that would of be awesome as i think more people run that anyway (well in the rotary places i mean) not Honda's ...

Keep looking. Both of my Magnaflows are 3", in/out. I have the round one as a pre-silencer, an oval will fit and quiet the note down more. I didn't know an oval would fit when I ordered mine, but that's what kgray has on his and it fits fine.

I was refering to the ones with dual out under their street series to maintain the stock look, but ya if you want to go with just a single out they do offer them with with 3" inlets with tips.

Also for the center section a 4x9 would fit bet under there without any moding, and if I recall correctly, I think the 5x8 would be able to fit in there but you would have to bend out the heat shielding a bit to to give you a little bit more room clearance from the floor so that it its more flush with the underside.

Also for the center section I think the biggest we could fit in there was the one with an overall length of about 17-20" from magnaflow, and it would have to be offset inlet and centered outlet, that would keep things a little neater and looks more stockish when you jack up the car.

So if all the above is true you would run a 14363 (Magnaflow Part Number) if you wanted to go with the 4x9 which is this:

I know for a fact that a 5x8 will fit under the car where the stock cats are. I had one there back when I made my first system on my 12A. I ran the magnaflow up by the manifold, to a turbo style muffler just before the axle to a ebay rice cannon out back and it was nearly as quiet at idle as stock. Let it rip though and it would come to life, but under normal driving, it wasn't much louder than stock. And before anyone asks, yes the ebay rice cannon lasted at least 3 months on that car then went on another car and is still going after a year. Even the turbo muffler was still in great shape when removed after the same amount of time. FYI, the turbo was a standard 4x9. If you do away with the heat sheilds, there is plenty of room.
