walk your happy ass to any mazda dealer with your vin number and they can cut you a new key

Dom 08-02-06 05:46 AM

VIN on 1st gen don't work. The key code is inside the driver's door on the handle mounting hardware. It's 5 or 6 digits.

Take that number to any locksmith for a new key.

And this time make copies!

You need a philips and a drill, Then rig it for push button start.

sometimes they work, it depends on the original selling dealer, they put the key code into the mazda system.

on a 1st gen its a 4 digit number

hope u didnt lose your original key like i did. its a 4 digit number found on the PASSENGER SIDE lock cylinder. although i never confirmed it kuz i went an easier route.

go to the hatch. take off the plastic pannel around the hatch lock cylinder. all you have to do is pop off the connecting rods to the lock cylinder and pull the cylinder out. take the cylinder to a locksmith where he can fab u a set of keys. make a spare. it costed me 30 bucks. now assemble back the lock cylinder and thats all! good luck.

another thing you can do is if you have other rx7 FRIENDS, u can see if they're keys work on your car. my key works on my friends turbo fc. door and ignition. my friends key can only unlock my door.

yep the FB keys are pretty much universal now, just get your hands on another one. Found this out when my buddy lost his keys at a cottage, luckily i had both of my keys on me. My '82 key worked on his '85 SE door and ignition.

ok who wants to sell me a key

73rx313b 08-02-06 06:23 PM

this might take a little time

go to wal mart and buy a blank key for your car. get you a couple of small files, rat tails work best. stick the blank in the switch and turn it both ways with a little force but careful not to break it(then your really screwed) pull it out and file your marks... it doesnt have to look pretty but it will work> these cars have a lot of miles on the old locks and thats why it is not uncommon for a key to work in several diffrent cars. this is a simple process that will work for you. let me know how it goes

i could allways take it to a key cutter after its etched on so i dont have to waste the time filing, thanks. ill have to go this route i think becasue i gotta have it runnign by saturday

rxtory 08-02-06 07:11 PM

If your car has the original locks for hatch, doors and ignition this is the best way to get a new key. I did this for the 1979 I bought for parts. Turned out it is too nice to scrap so I am restoring it. The locksmith charge was $20.

rxtory 08-05-06 04:15 PM

i took the broken key to a key cutter and he was able to actually cut me a new key. SO problem solved. oh and for the original key, both the keys i had were not original. so one out there has it. a previous owner i suspect

DublyDurty 08-05-06 04:31 PM

And with your propensity for losing keys, I hope you had at least 3 made. One to use, one to lose, and one to give to a trusted friend for backup. JK
