loose wire identification needed

I discovered a loose wire dragging on the ground under the engine compartment of my 85 GL with 12A engine. Anybody know what it is for or where to look up such information?

The wire comes out of a bundle under the oil cooler. It is green with orange dots. It is a skinny wire (maybe 18 ga.) for about 6-10 inches and then it connects to a much fatter wire like a spark plug wire. The fat black wire is about 10-12 inches long. On the loose end of the fat wire is a half broken off plastic connector with a half missing rubber boot. The broken off metal tab inside the plastic connector reads zero volts when the engine is off, and about 14 volts with the engine running.

Take a look at this link

There is an engin electrical section, and wireing diagrams that might help you out.

Good luck

Thanks.

The online shop manual is a wonderful resource. While it did not directly identify the green/orange wire, I did discover (by visual inspection) that it should go to the oil level sensor. This information may help someone else at some point in time.
