looking for '85 12A, auto production numbers
Was wondering if anyone here could help me find the production #'s for 1985 GS auto tranny. Just about everyone that I talk to about my car is suprised that it is an automatic, so I have a hunch that there was not many made. Any ideas, sites?

Ha Ha, I'm trying to be serious here bastard. In two years this thing becomes a classic, and I need to know so that I can either restore it, or race it. The numbers will tell me which choice to go with. Anybody else that can answer me without being stupid?

The auto rx-7's are more common than you'd think. |

Being serious and apologetic, about 36,000 RX-7s were produced with automatic transmissions. In 1985 production went into decline waiting for the Gen 2, while 13b production cut into the number of 12a cars sold. Offical Mazda figures are not available other than the total number of RX-7s produced in Japan in 1985, some 35,000.
Based on trends I suggest about 1500 automatic cars were sold in the USA [n 1985 with some 8-900 still in existence. They tend to get scrapped at a higher rate than manuals as not being seen as 'sports cars' , demand at the bottom end of the marke0 [young kids] is not high. |
Thanks guys. Yeah, where I live (AZ) a car officially becomes a classic after 20 years. I know that automatics aren't seen as sports cars, but I would like to change that, if you know what I mean:) My car right now is currently in the garage getting the engine rebuilt, interior stripped, etc., and should be back on the road in about another month and a half. I can't wait!
