lift strut for hood

Has anyone ever put a lift strut for the bonnet on their cars? I just think it would be kinda cool to pop the hood release button, and have the hood float up...kinda goes against my whole "light wieght" quest, but some times you just ahve to do a cool thing.

I want to do that too. I think it would be cool.

woah. that would be sweet

Maybe you can fab something if you use an exisiting assembly from another car, like the newer jettas?

i was thinking about using the same struts as on the rear hatch...im gonna buy one of mantis's FG hoods so the strut will not have much to lift.

I'm just trying to think where to mount it. I'm thinking it's not gonna work, due to the angles it has to over come and the leverage. It'll either have to be opened a little by hand, or won't open all the way.

ya i have been thinking the same thing...what about a spring?...so that when the latch is released it gives it a little extra "umph"

Whats with this negative thinking? Anythings possible, this should be a pretty simple thing to do, and it would be killer.

u'd have to make sure it was only strong enough to lift and hold the hood... too strong and u risk bending ur hood... itd take some expirimenting i think

Lotus00 07-03-04 07:39 PM

I think you would need some really strong struts to bend the hood. Maybe the struts on the hatch would work?

I've been looking into this idea for over a year now.... so far I got the struts. They are both about 10" long. Im now making bracketts for them. I should post pictures next week.
