Lexan glass, pop rivet hell (yeah i know not really glass it's polycarbonate plastic)
4 Attachment(s)
I do some work out of NeoTech Imports (a shop (primarily nissan)) here in san diego sometimes and teddy asked me to put lexan windows in his 1st gen drag car (er the drag car that will be one day).
so after much cursing, bleeding, sore muscles and back the front windshield, rear quarter windows and rear hatch are complete ( i was only given one sheet of lexan glass which was not enough for everything teddy wanted done so im waiting on the other sheet of glass). which at that point i get to go back to lexan/pop rivet hell. mind you on saturday i was on a mission for teddy to try to find another sheet of lexan so i could get it all done this weekend but for some ungodly reason all the places here in SD that sell lexan close at 1pm on sat or aren't open at all. i did talk to an interesting character though that felt the need to explain to me that its not really glass its polycarbonate plastic. only after which he got my hopes up of getting a sheet then only to tell me he had closed at 1pm and that wasnt possible. anyhow back on topic. i think teddy is happy with the result. he seemed that way today when he came by. here are a couple pics. the front is really dirty Attachment 720037 Attachment 720038 Attachment 720039 Attachment 720040 for the front i had to make a custom bracket to hold the supports in place. the supports will keep it from flopping around on the track and the windshield is urethaned on (as a glass windshield would be) to keep wind noise away. |

for the rear i also had to create a support to keep noise down. i decided to keep the upper hinge on and the center cover for what would have been the latch. removing the hinges would have caused a leaking problem in the roof and it made the supports more aesthetically pleasing IMO.
Attachment 720041 Attachment 720042 Attachment 720043 Attachment 720044 i also had to make custom brackets for the rear to mount the lexan to as there was no mounting possibilities on the chassis itself. cutting out the rubber gasket (which isnt just rubber btw it has aluminum in it to keep its form) was fun.....not Attachment 720045 Attachment 720046 |

and the rear quarters were a bitch. lol teddy had bought some "precut ready to install" rear quarters. what a f'ing joke that was. i think it took me more time to modify those than it would have to have just made my own. but w/e
Attachment 720047 Attachment 720048 Attachment 720049 i was able to put the little rear corner cover back on but it needs to stay put for a full 24 hours so it had to be taped over. |
2cute----- this shit i no joke. I'll be honest and say one thing. i was kinda worried ok worried is not correct word, doubtful, ok there I said it. Now I stand corrected---from the pictures the out come looks not only professional but "gangster". Holy shit !!! i mentioned to teddy about window clips and bracing and blabablabbbbahh and damn from the looks of the bracing and clips which you fabed, why did i even open my mouth to teddy..... 2 cute you r fuckin hardcore. great job.

YO YO 2cute i want a sticker to damn-it. what sticker, who knows but i wants me one too. For the doubting on my part just so that we are clear on things, it's got nothing to do with "girls cant do shit or it's man world" none of that shit believe me. my doubt are more like she/he who has no experience with fabing lex-an and glass and install and all that shit. Obviously the results speak for themselves. yeah we clear. "You Gangster" much props....

Love the rear window, it now has a rotor brace!! lol

cool thing about lexan, in the event of a crash, you can't bust it out. and if you do "punch" through it, it shards and you get yourself pinched into it so that you can't pull yourself back through without impalement..
