kia 4.778 help

ok before u start going krazy and thinking here we go with another kia thread ,ive done plenty of searches but have not found my answer ! here we go i, i need 2 no whether a 2000 kia sportage front r&p would fit and if it is in deed a 4.778 gear ratio , reason im asking is because i have 1 on the way (4wd) ,when i say r&p i mean the whole pumpkin direct bolt on ,i have an 85 gs with thick axles , any help would be greatly appreciated as the pumpkin is due 2 arrive at 3:00 today from a local j/y (junk yard) thanks again:)

here is a video i made in my vlog, has some stuff about the kia diff about 1/2 way in.

basically the whole 3rd member will bolt into the housing, and the larger spline axles fit right in. Just need another bolt to replace the single long one the Rx7 has. The kia uses the same bolts all around.

also, if you are capable, i suggest tightening up the lashing a tad.

i truly appreciate ur quick reply and i have seen that helpful video of urs but the ? still stands if i recall ur post said 96 or 97 and up ,but just like all the kia posts they dont specify from (example)96 to 2001 or 94 to 2008 ,ive been told that u can only use 96,97 models that 2000's models came with even thicker axels ,i dont no whether thats true which is y im posting this thread ,i dont see y they would change it ,mainly i am wondering if some1 has actually tried a 2000 model with success again thank u gravity and any1 else that can answer my?

well i know a 2001 will work, so i would assume 2000 would.

well i guess thats that now all i have 2 do is count the teeth and pray it will fit actually u no what i have a spare set of 85 axles there drums but i think there the thick ones (gs model)they should stiil fit right:scratch:,just 2 clarify i should have 43 and 9 on the ring &pinion correct =4.778

Whizbang 04-20-10 01:40 PM

havent actually bothered to count but when you divide you should get 4.778ish.

Isn't that Kia front diff an open differential?

I believe that others have used the clutch assembly from S3 GSL and SE rears and swapped them into the Kia diff. Also I believe they have used the Kia gears and put them into GSL and SE rears for the same type of setup (LSD).

you know an easy way that I normally do to find out if things are the same or not is just by going on rock auto's website and see if all the bearing parts numbers and what ever else you can find about the rear end shares the same number.

back in the day, we were a mazda/kia store, so it was as simple as grabbing the catalog. the 90's kia part numbers are just mazda numbers with an 0k infront

I meant to cross reference between years and models as oppose to just ordering.
