When mine gets like that I take it and get some hot water and soak it in hot water for 10-15 minutes, it sounds like you have too much oil on the filter and yu never completely get it off. Then take it out of the hot water and use a hose and make a meduim stream and get the red crap out...it should work good...Don't ever wash it in the Bath tub..MY WIFE ABOUT KILLED ME! That red crap will never really go away from a bathtub...

Hose it from the inside with Berryman b-12.

You are cleaning it was too often, Once a year is all I do, unless you are driving on dirt roads all day long. You should really read the directions on the box about intervals.
I soak mine in a warm water about 10minutes, then roll it through a pie pan with k&n cleaning solution, changing the solution once because it gets so dirty. Once air dried, I lightly spray the oil, come back a 10 minutes later and re-apply to the white areas, done. John |
I have the one that replaces the stock paper mida filter of the 12a.
I have had it two years now. I clean it at the end of each season, and maybe once in between. So it basicly gets cleaned twice a year. That is plenty |
mine get reallly dirty real quick, that why i clean it up every oil change. now with the turbo it seemed to get dirtier quicker. and i do like the intruction i use warm water and low pressure. and i wait until it dryes out to apply the oil. i dont know what else im doing wrong or it just plain getting dirty

If your cone filter is not shielded by some sort of enclosure, it'll get dirty really fast just from road grime and crud kicked up by the tires.
Just a thought. |
the filter is inside on the engine bay, is not as a true cold air or under the fender. but im being planning to do a heat shield for it
