Just finished my interior

Well, the other day I picked up an unbroken stereo surround, and analog clock. I have a GSL which (for those who dont know) came with a joystick balance/fader control rather than a clock, and an equalizer rather than a pocket. Since the stereo was going to be replaced by an aftermarket unit that doesnt need these things, I pulled them out, and slowly collected the proper pieces. I got them all in today, and fixed all wiring issues. So now I have my stereo installed, the pocket, and clock all in working order. the stereo is temporarily only wired to the front speakers, but the rears will come soon enough. Also, you all know how much I love my digi, so I took some pics for ya too :).

PS - I also added a page on my Car Domain site. If you wanna check it out, the link is in my sig :).

Looking good T.J.! Makes me want to go rip out my stock 83' radio and eq. :D

oh, and I like how the smoke on the cig lighter is aligned properly. I do that too.

zookeeper 11-21-02 12:19 AM

Yeah but does it play "oldies"...

Looking gr8, T.J.

I've been wanting to replace mine, but I hate to give up my OEM setup AND that's a big hole to fill if I pull all three units out. Been looking at some double-din stuff, but nothing I like so far. Plus whatever I get could ONLY play the Oldies. No rap or hip-hop allowed ;)

Haha, yeah. I do it whenever I notice it. Usually it stays there as its a semi-tight fit, and no one uses it. The only time it comes out is when I plug in my car charger, and then when I put it in, I usually take a second to make sure its straight. If Im in a hurry, I'll just pop it in and take off, and then whenever I notice it later I'll fix it :).

His idea also incorperates either a pocket under the radio, or a tri-gague unit. Both units also include a slide out cup holder for those ice cold beverages after you finish your install and are crusing the roads :).

PS - Welcome to the board, you'll find some good stuff here :). Also, from what you describe, you may have an S model. the common ones are (from lowest to highest), S, GS, GSL, and GSL-SE.

p/s nice radio!
Eh...Im not too fond of it. It was a Christmas present to my step-mom a couple years ago to replace a broken on in her Ford ranger. We sold the truck and pulled it before we sold it. She got a 1997 F-150 with a 10 disc changer and everything already, so therewas no use for it. I decided I could use it :). Its funny though, my friend just bought one of the new full color Sonys for like $700, and this thing was like $200 WITH TAX, and it does just as much as his. Just not a cool looking. Most of it is all the same though, so its pretty good I guess :). It works for now, and thats all I care about :).

Hey I have a 83 GSL too!! Yeah I plan on changing the stock radio, can I connect the aftermarketradio to the EQ and joystick thingy? Is that a stock boot on ur shifter?

RotorMotorDriver 12-11-02 02:15 AM

You probably could, but I dont see why you would want to. I personally think that running all new wire and everything would be better than using all the old stuff, which is why I did it the way I did.

As far as the shifter goes, its stock, but for an 84. Both the boot and the knob are out of an 84. Im surprised no one with their eagle eyes noticed it before ;). I wasnt fond of the pistol grip type 83 shift knob, I prefered the knob in my Dads GSL-SE (car I drove with my permit in). So, I swapped it out for the later model :).

I just thought I would sneek a peek of my stereo setup in my se hope no one minds. heh My Radio

mar3 12-11-02 10:45 PM

Oh, man, I dunno about that diamond pleat steel plate....do you have it on the floors also? The met red is a nice color, though,,,it's just those diamond pleats...:p:

OoMazdaSpeedoO 12-11-02 10:57 PM

I was giving it thought to putting some down on the floor board, maybe also building an amp rack with it when I change my stereo install

mar3 12-11-02 11:04 PM

Ooof....well, if you do, make sure the exterior paint is that same candy met red so it all ties together...pretty sweet lil' color...

OoMazdaSpeedoO 12-11-02 11:34 PM

see thats why I dont know if I am going to, I wanna keep the outside black, my flame window tint sticks out better, and Im having a lil flame design ghosted into the paint on the body between the side windows to connect one window to the other. I'm trying to be kinda different.

Vubonic 12-12-02 12:23 AM

How did you fill up the equiliizer part? And where did you find the glass moon roof? I saw one on ebay for ....145:(

If your talking to me, I filled my EQ hole with the stock pocket from a car that doesnt come with the "high end" stereo. Same with the balance/fader joystick. I replaced it with the stock clock from a lower model car. All the wires are there, you just need to plug it in :).

Rotor13B 12-12-02 04:34 AM

So now you have two clocks? lol

No, in the 81-83 cars, the clock was located below the stereo. Its about where the ashtray is on the 84-85 cars. Anyway, if you had the upgraded sound system, you had no clock because the balance/fader control takes it place. Since I had this upgraded sound system but the parts didnt work anymore with the aftermarket CD player, I took them out, and replaced them with the coresponding parts from the lower trim level car, so I now have ONE clock (unless you count the one on my stereo :)).
