Junk Yard: Do They Know Your Name?

What treasures have you found at the local junk yard (where you go out & remove it yourself)? Rust-free door for my wide body, sun roofs for both cars, tail light units, rear bumper, carpet, Al stock wheels (for racing tires), misc. trim pieces & a few small but expensive engine pieces to name a few. What claims have you made at the junk yard? They call me,"The Mazda Lady".

funny. Of course. Im there every weekend in the past xx years. I wont say the # of years.

The local pick-a-part yards don't have any first gens. None. I live in the country's National Capital Region and I can't even find a 7 in a junkyard! What has this world come to?

There's a junk yard less than a mile from my shop, but not much rotary selection. Sometimes I just buy an electric fan or snag some injectors. I once found a nearly complete GSL-SE there, but that was the only really good thing I've seen in a long time. There is a Mazda-Toyota junk yard in town, but the few times I've been there, they want GOLD for even the crappy stuff. Frankly, I do better by buying cars that would have gone to the junk yard if I hadn't found them first. One such case was just a couple weeks ago when an informant told me about a "running when parked" GSL-SE that had been sitting for two years in front of a friend's house. Nice old guy. I got the impression he would have given it to me for free, just to see it hauled away, but I ponied up $300. Hard to go wrong on that deal because it still has the glass sunroof (~$130 right there).

I was "the rx7 guy" at the junkyardS (plural) in New Orleans.

the few 7's that get to the bone yards here get raped as soon as they are put out.....I couldn't get an engine if my life depended on it.

There is a junk yard here in Maryland with a couple of 1st gens and that is where I got my engine and a couple of carbs and a set of taillights. Plan on going this weekend if it warms a bit.

I'm headed to the local parts jungle around my area last I was there they had about five or six first gens. mostly complete too, looking for the suspension out of an -se.

the few rotary cars that find there way through Great Lakes Auto (2 FB's in umm...years) have been viewed by me. They know me there though. we go there all the damn time. Hell i go in 3 feet of snow during the winter. get to see the new winter time stock! I dont even go the office anymore. From my VW tuning days i got ASSLOADS of parts from there. now i always ask "any 7's?" Now at the point where when i come in, they just say "no"

Don't have a Rx yet... but I'm going to try to make a deal on an FC and FB, that I've been looking at for the last week, on saturday. Right now my brother and I are known as the 280z guys since we've pretty much taken all the good panels off the 280zx's in the yard. Who knows... they might change my name now.

haha, local guy here takes crashed Rx7's and puts the engines into boats, so i've been down there picking through all the cars he has. hes known my first name for awhile.

so far ive gotten, 1 tranny, a bunch of random relays and electronics, center console, leather seats, rear container bins, stereo surround, steering column cover, rad hoses, clock, uhh i think thats about it, theres a few second gens i still have to check out. lol. i'm just glad im getting everything dirt cheap :)

Well, a fair good chunk of the stuff in my '79 came from Awesome Auto Salvage in Dallas. Mostly later model accessories to update the car: '84 seats, '81 gauge cluster, '81-5 power mirrors, '81-3 steering column, '80 carburetor and intake manifold, rear wing, glass sunroof (yes! only $20, too!) and a whole bunch of miscellaneous bits. Oh, the engine wiring harness (previous owner stuck an '81 engine in the '79, harness and all. It plugged in, but didn't work right.
I don't know how many other spare bits and pieces I've scrounged from Awesome and the local Pick'N'Pull.

the pull a part has an online section, I check it out each week to see if anything new has been added, and hit the yard when they are. They currently have 4 2'nd and 2 first's I was going last weekend But the Ice keep me away. Hope to hit it this weekend.

I freqent the "sosposed" junk yards once a week it is hard to find first gens we usally by a whole car cheaper but second gens are easy my best deal was a s5 13b out of an 89 with an auto tranny got for like $120 with 90,xxx moles on it I love that pick-a-part.

SS124A 02-03-05 10:52 AM

i have a couple yard that actually call me when a new RX-7 arrives.

there is a towing company here that calls me, they drop it off, I strip it, they come back like 2 days later to pick up the disgarded shell..

I actually have an 88 GTU in my front yard right now...
Sometimes I feel like I am in Kentucky, :;):
