Jegs or Mallory pump?
Looking at a new fuel pump for my set up (51IDA 13B street port 3/8 lines 180BHP), need some high volume and was looking at the Mallory 4110 but also noticed the Jegs 15914 similar spec half the price! I already have a Mallory 4309 FPR so only need the pump.
Has anyone used the Jegs pumps? Any feedback on the Mallory or other recommendations? Thanks in advance |
do not use mallory replaced two in a year and a half due to brush problems

What they wore out? I have a Mallory 4110 at the minute but I brought it second hand and don't think it has ever been right, just intermittent pressure and noisy but I that's what you get for buying from eBay!

yes worn out, intermittant and noisey. last one broke the brush plate.

Best pump I ever bought for a carb was actually a no-name universal usually stocked at the local parts store. They generally have two kinds, 4-6 psi and a 6-9 psi model.
My BP 12A ran on the 6-9 model without the use of a pusher pump, due to its high volume. It was quiet as a mouse, didnt get hot, and had constant pressure. Iirc it cost under 70 bucks too! A retired hot rodder recommended the use of one, but i'll have to find the PN#s. It is similar to this pump: AIRTEX Part # E8153 retails for 43.79! 10-14 psi@35 GPH Mine never needed anymore than that :) |
I have been running a mallory 4070 on a 13B Streetport with webber 36dcds for about fifeteen years and I have had only two failures during that time, both were brushes. The repair is cheap (under 10 bucks) and once I learned how to switch them out it is quick and painless. If I had broke the brush plate I might not like it so much tho. I like it cause you can run the pressure up @ the pump and them back down @ the regulator and I think this gives a more steady pressure at the carb. I mounted mine on rubber vibration isolators and they are nearly silent............2 cents

you must have got a good one both of mine died very quickly..will never buy another one. and yes I have rewired for the pump, so that was not the cause.

i have had 2 mallories, my friend had 1. same thing brushes....next time around i'll try aeromotive pump

Thanks for the feedback, not so positive for a Mallory then!
What about carter? |
Not a jegs or mallory, but my last pump i bought as a "holley" inline electric EFI pump from jegs ( for a turbo 12a thang) and when i got my package it had a bare white box, i open it up and low and behold, it was a walbro. Its been serving me for 5 years now and delivers outstanding flow and pressure when needed
