Intercooler Advice

I am looking into a intercooler now, and need some advice from those of you who have been through installation. I noticed looking around that some have the piping coming out of the bottom, and some from the top. Some are short, some not. I will be runing a 12a street port with s5 turbo, and a sidedraft weber. Also, what sixe, dimensions seem to fit well.

thanks all,
Chris

Yes, I'm interested in the pros/cons of intercooler setups myself. For instance, the OEM intercooler on TII FC's......

I did a search, but there is soooo much to look through. Thanks all!

Search on "npr"
They fit pretty good, can be had pretty cheap on ebay, and are huge.

if you dont have the a/c installed pretty much any intercooler can be made to fit, with the a/c a little more finessing is required. im putting a 24x12x3 intercooler up front, does it fit? if not ill make it.

bar and plate, great effeicentcy , lower flow, more pricey
tub and fin, lower effeicentcy, higher flow, less pricey

many fb turbo guys use the porshe intercoolers or the volvo or even the npr's. i personally am only gonna use a brand new intercooler, i dont need peices of a compressor blade going into my engine from the previous vehicle.

carl.

i use the large volvo intercooler. Its very light since its ABS and it fits well. These go on ebay all the time for 20-100 bux. I did it all myself in about 3 hours with two freinds. My pipe comes up from the turbo then streight forward into the top of the IC, then it comes out the other side just on top of the battery. I have been very happy with it, i did the whole thing for under 200 bux. There are only 2 pieces of pipe and 4 couplings. I used aluminized mandrel bent steel tubing i got from a turbo places, i sectioned it and welded it myself. I can try and get some pics up later if someone an size them and post them for me.

i can get you a new spearco intercooler...... for cheap, all you have to do is fab up the intercooler piping...the only reason i dont make a i/c kit is because of all the different motor/turbo configurations....

The Wankler 08-18-04 04:26 PM

Ok, sounds awesome! Ill call you for info and the details.

What size intercooler core are you talking about? And what size inlet/outlets?

thanks

680RWHP12A 10-11-04 01:42 PM

its got 2 1/2 inlet//outlets, 3 1/2 thick core, 1 foot tall x 2 feet wide...

remember a descent size good core is better than a huge production factory core..... less tubo lag!!!

The Wankler 10-11-04 03:08 PM

Robert, do you have to move the battery to put this one in place?

680RWHP12A 10-11-04 03:17 PM

it depends on who makes your i/c piping, and how they route it....

The Wankler 10-11-04 03:21 PM

Great. I really do not want to move the battery. Send me a email please with a price for that Robert.

Robert, does the 2' wide measurement include the endtanks? Or is that how big the core is and you have to add more for the endtanks? Just making sure it will fit within the radiator supports. Also what is the price for the intercooler? I am looking for something that I can mount inbetween the radiator supports and still leave that top cover that goes back to the radiator installed. Also, I have a gslse, can this radiator be mounted without relocating the oil cooler?
Tried sending this via the pm option but I guess you get too many so you turned your pm's off. You can email the price to rotaryrevn@charter.net

thanks
John
