installing a Racing Beat intake for stock nikki

Hey y'all, I was wondering if I am missing something with installing the Racing Beat air cleaner. I have the threaded rod and wingnut and everything is secure, but it seems like the metal-on-metal contact at the base of the air cleaner/top lip of the carb needs like a little gasket or something so air doesn't leak past any small gaps that might be there. Am I in crazy town.and this is how it's supposed to be?

I don't remember one coming with mine. Then again, I bought mine around 1991. However, I'm sure it's fine. If it bothers you that much, you could probably put thin layer of oil at the interface and call it good.

There should be a gasket that goes around the top of carb airhorn for air cleaner base to seal against. Suppose it should have come in kit. Gasket is 5.25" in diameter and is a common size for any Holley,Edelbrock,Quadrajet 4 barrel carb.
Should be able to source one at any speed shop or auto parts store for couple bucks.

There is no gasket and it is worrisome. I've added a one and also added a circular piece of radiator hose for the wingnut. But does tightening against rubber really work? It does if you also have a cotter pin or a spring clip that goes through a small hole in the stud. The keeps the wing nut from turning and loosening.

I used some small vacuum tubing that I sliced down the length to seal my after market air cleaner. Works like a charm. Just pushed it on over the lip of the bottom of the horn.

You could also just get some gasket material and make a ring that fits on top of the carb lip.
