installing oil pressure gauge
 

I have a 79sa, and I want to install an electrical oil gauge, and have a question. Has anyone ever tried using an oil filter adapter to connect the sender to. It seems like the easiest way to install it, but was wondering if they are safe to use.

Yeah that was my second option. Wacky, did you buy another bolt with the threads in it or did you drill it yourself?

i drilled mine myself, just when you tap, dont tap 100% of the way through or it wont seal. Like dont have the big end of the tap pass through the entire bolt.

Did that the first time....oops.

I tapped it but not all the way just like what DJ recommended

I did one of those banjo bolts on the white REPU because it has a nitrided R5 13B (swapped in a few years prior) which never had a drilled oil pressure hole in the usual spot. Kinda like a '79 or '80 12A. It was my first attempt at an NPT tapered threaded anything. I followed the advice given to me by the guy at the store and it all worked fine in the end.

Oh, the guage is super-animated. It's so sensitive that you can actually observe the individual pulses of the oil pump at a low idle. :D Then you rev it and the needle instantly shoots up to 90 psi.

I'd have to say banjo bolt sender location for the win, but it's more academic than practical, unless you've got an R5 or '79-'80 rear plate, or you have a stock mushroom sender and want a second opinion (and don't feel like buying an aftermarket pedestal adaptor).

You guys have me convinced, I`m going to try drilling the bolt. I`ve never tried it, but after reading your post Jeff20B, I should be able to do it without any problems.
