installing GC coilovers
 

just wondering what would be the easiest way to remove the front struts to install the GC coilovers on my 85 gsl. is it necessary to fully remove the strut from the car?

for those, dont you have to cut the stock spring perch off?

i did this set up on a 85 gslse and yes i did have to remove the stock perch and reweld it about 6inches lower than stock.... becareful not to get it to hot, as it will worp the strut tube.... good luck

okay, what is the easiest method to remove the strut. i mean would it be any easier to leave the rotor/carliper on, and just remove the ball joint and the tie rod? or do i actually need to remove those components

You need to get a manual or use the online version to do this level of mod.
You need to completely remove the strut assembly, remove the brake mount and the brake rotor, remove the shock from the tube, cut your perch off, then follow the instructions from GC on welding position of new perch. I posted sneak peek pics of my assembled GC weld kit. Check it out.
Before welding, put strut tube in a parts washer and degrease it, after welding and grinding prime and paint(bake the paint on for 3 hours in your oven at 200 degrees for a hard finish, engine paint is great!)
