Initial Smoke on Startup

Hi again, i was wondering if the initial smoke on startup is perfectly normal. I would think all the oil in the housing would work its way down to the bottom then burn off immediately. I know with any piston engine smoke at startup means old dry seals. Also are their any sign of when your oil seals are starting to give out? Someone told me to start watching my seals in my car.

Waddya think?

Meh... i always get a decent amount of smoke when i start up on a cold engine. I am pretty sure it is perfectly normal... just as long as you don't have the same amount when you are driving on a warm engine.

If the smoke clears within a minute or so you have nothing to worry about. This is very typical of these engines and does not mean that you have any imminent engine rebuilds in your future. If you get smoke at high RPM between shifts that's when you hafta start to be concerned.

Completely normal on an older engine, it gets noticeably worse on the cooler mornings that we are getting this time of year.
