Dead Gsl-Se

I have owned more than 15 Mazda Rx-7's, all 84 and 85 and only one was a non GSl-SE, the reason I bought it was because it was one of the ones, it was an 84 GS with the neatest set of 14 inch bbs wheels. Every one of them I took completley apart and rebuilt into better cars and pawned off for next to nothing. The one GS, 84 that I had converted over to 13b using another I had wrecked. Ive done everything anyone has ever wanted to do with an Rx-7. I had 3 GSL-SE's left all had problems, all 84. 2 I totally stripped and sold as junk and built an awesome 3rd. I have complete dashes and rear ends and engines, and transmissions...honestly 4 or 5 cars worth of junk all from stripped RX-7's in my barn stacked upon stacks. 3 years ago I stumbled upon an auction and bought a 1989 Ford Mustang 5.8 retired Florida highway patrol police car and have been in love since. Ive put 10 grand in my mustang and now that im done, ive realized my first car in my life is still in my front yard. I cannot get it to start no matter what i do. ive replaced coils, cap, rotors, plugs, complete distrubuter....I carried an engine in a box out of Mazda 4 months ago. I replaced fuel pump, gas... and still, the front 2 plugs wont fire and the car runs like ****. what must i check/replace next.

if they are not getting any spark, your gonn ahave to check your ignition system, while ur at it go direct fire. I dont kno what to look for, but its in the ignition

And please bear in mind that 3 years ago when i parked the car there, it ran fine. Whatever the issue is, has happened via 3 years of sitting in the same spot. I dont understand the direct fire theory.

I did. wires, cap, rotor button, battery, complete distributer, coils, battery cables, engine , transmission, fuel pump, swapped intake with an identical spare off another same model. The reason i included the story about me is because im the best ive ever know with an rx-7 and cant get my own to run. i used a test light and the coils get juice from power source. reverse the brand new coils and the same problem. the front 2 plugs get no spark.

When you replaced the distributor, did you transfer the igniter boxes from the old one to the new one? Maybe one is bad? Did you check to see if you had spark leading vs. trailing on both rotors?

This may sound stupid, but how old is the gas in the tank, ? 3 years old ?....... ran fine, then parked it,.....
water in the gas ?? Maybe a bad igniter. you've covered almost the entire engine, and you've owned these sometimes a nightmare rotorys before, -SE's even....
you might try changing the ECU.. i'll take a -SE 5 speed
an 84 would be great ! i'll need some info first. it's all about the cost of shipping.. if i can or can not, afford it.
thanks.

if the igniters are the boxes on the sides of the distributor, then by using 3 different distributers... spares obviously, same problem using all 3. I dont think all 3 distributers had the same exact bad ignitors. therefore I cant be that. And when i tried to start the car in the beginning, i realized the fuel pump was locked and had to replace it too, when I did so. I blew out the lines and refilled it with clean gas.

If you want to ship me the third memeber or "hogs head", "pumkin" whatever you want to call it from the rear end I would be most appreciative. I need the LSD, gears, everything. Preferably an Limited Slip that works well.

Yeah, not very likely all 3 were(are) bad. Then it's got to be wiring, i don't think a bad crank angel sensor is it either, but it does tell the ECU when to fire. I have noticed that the mazda wires do get hard and brittle and are easy the crack under the hood. I know this for a fact, because my -SE i bought had sat for years. The gas turns into a gummy crap everywhere except in the injectors i don't know why. you might want to replace the o-rings on the injectors, just because. i know that doesn't have anything to do with the coil(s).. did you ever start the car to charge the battery and ETC during the 3 years ?? see, i keep forgeting your a rotory veteren......... what haven't you replaced ???

Did you get my PM? When I send the PM it never shows up in my Sent Items folder, so I don't know whether they're making it to you or not...

i started the car from time to time yes, but at one point i know i let it go too long because the fuel pump went out. I didnt get aroung to replace it for like 6 months and thats whats prompted me to get it running. of all the cars ive had, gsl-se's that is, this is the one that that has all the good stuff from all the others ive parted into it. I think it may be the wiring but off all the work ive done to an rx, the wiring was the worst to play with because of the weird wiring colors.

the radio didnt work anymore for some reason either, i removed the boxes in the back of the car and found that the power wire to one of the stock amps by the fuel pump has somehow disintegrated. easy fix, but it makes you think.

Guys i menchioned that i have alot of parts that id give away to the rx-7 family here, but some of you have been kind of weird in the parts requests. Of all the rx-7's ive owned i never had working hatch struts strong enuf to hold up the window with a wiper, the silver shift plate around the shifter itself, has always had the broken pegs everysingle one of them ive had to crazy glue, i think they are all like that. I had a gray dash but it aint worth shipping to nobody.

What do I have, the good stuff that dont go bad from sitting. I stripped 3 or 4 gsl-se's 1984 and 1 85, and sold the bare bodies to a scrapyard after being fined for having 6 cars and 2 trucks in my yard for a long period of time. environmental thing.. go figure. heres the list..

3 complete rear ends all with lsd. I mean complete shocks springs and tires attached with brakes and calipers in pickle buckets beside em. 6 front suspention sets, spring, strut caliper and brake.. all attached complete. 2 glass/moonroofs fitting almost all models that had the moonroof. some came with metal some had glass, if you can twist up your roof, the glass will fit...earlier models of the rx have a pop thing.
i have a row of glass, windshields and back glass 2 with wipers (rear). 6 left and right doors complete with glass.
And of course they were gsl-se's so power windows and regulators. the panels all suck except the pair i stole for my 1 car left. i have 4-5 gallon buckets of switches and every single thing in the engine compartment that had a wire and a plug in it...if you want something like that send me a picture of what im digging for. im good with rx-7's but im still just a backyard mechanic, the names of some of this **** still blows me away. 3 engines with transmissions all conected and untouched as if pulled yesterday.. fully dressed, air compressor, altenator, intakes, COMPLETE. 2 ran for sure very good. 1 had rust for a body and the other i hit a school bus with. His fault btw, that gave me 5500 bucks for damages to my rx and i deducted 300 bucks to keep the wreck. this is the one with a brand new 5.15 lsd i bought from mazdatrix like 4 years ago.
dude sold me his car cause he knocked the teeth off the ring and pinion gear for 300 bucks. new ring and pinion was 600 bucks 5.15. hit a bus with the car 6 mos later
and got 5500 !
