now see where "buying something because it looks cool" has gotten you? that specifically says "for race use only". meaning for race cars that only have the need to run ignition and starter, and nothing else. get a replacement oem switch and be done with it. they will be simply plug-n-play. check rockauto.com. they show 83 out of stock but 82 or 84(12a) will probably work. atkins rotary has one brand new on ebay for 81 to 83 for $140. https://www.ebay.com/p/4021827853?ii...iABEgLFhvD_BwE

Appreciate the positivity and willingness to help someone with a similar interest. I asked for a wiring diagram, not a lesson in being practical. Sit down

Ya know with a response like that people won't be jumping to respond to your threads. We're here to help each other, remember you asked the question, one of many in your time here.Everyone has been straightforward with responses to your questions.
I've been working on these cars for almost 40 years and i agree rxtasy3 is right, not enough circuits in that switch assembly to do what you need. Look closely at the back of your existing switch and the back of the one you purchased.
Go to foxed.ca rx7 manuals. Find your year car and fsm for it and wiring diagrams to see for yourself what was said here is true. +1 for sourcing correct ig switch for your model year.

wiring diagrams can be found on the foxed.ca site. and google is your friend, try using it sometime.

You can use the new push-button switch, but to make it work you will also need a good factory switch. I have one from a 1984/1985. PM me if interested. Maybe ask questions first to understand what is required before buying anything.

There is a lot of knowledge in our membership and they might just have some good suggestions/ideas on what to get and what to stay away from.

Ignition switch 81 - 83 rx7

Hey Guys,

I see this thread is from 2019.

Now in 2022 I am looking for a new ignition switch for my 83 rx7. But everyone shows out of stock and they are NLA. After talking to a few people and researching. Looks like my only solution is adding a start button to trigger my starter. Anyone have any idea where I can an ignition switch?

On Atkins website they have listed under the link for the 81-83 ignition switch that " BA14-66-151A switch may work as a replacement "

https://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/Ignition-System/Ignition-Switches/79-85-Rx7-Ignition-Switches/81-83-Rx7-Ignition-Switch-BA24-66-155A.html#product-details-tab-description

Has anyone tried using this one?

Thanks

BA14-66-151A is 81-82 up to vin 642149 -> Everywhere I look it shows this switch is also NLA
BA24-66-155A is 82-83 vin 642150 up
FA54-66-151 is 84-85

I had found this one from Australia but the plugs are different. So it won't work, I had got so excited lol

https://www.ebay.com/itm/254488959759

What I'm wondering is if the push start button still be able to work as the starter trigger? The cars knows the key is in but when I do that last turn to turn the car on nothing. I have a brand new 84 to 85 switch from my old gls-se but the plugs are different.

A push button will work as the starter trigger. You'll want to trigger a reply from the current switch Start position + and then send a direct battery voltage, via the reply, to to Starter trigger connection. Make sure the button is a momentary one or just buy a Starter button "kit".

84-85 ingition switch

Well I ended up finding a 83 rx7 used ignition switch. But it ended up being bunk. After install it, it would keep turning the starter if it was left in certain full crank position. So I had a brand new 84-85 ignition switch laying that I had only used for a couple of months on another car I had. The ignition switch ended up being the same just that it has one extra wire and the plugs are different colors. So the 84 -85 ignition switch will fit rx7's from 81 to 85. Atkins has new ones available for $50.

PAC Performance in Australia has one too, but it looks very different from the one you linked on epay. Also it's $144 USD plus shipping.
