ignition switch?

Ok so as some of you already know I have swapped a 5.0 H.O. into my 84 GSLE-se. I have been able to get the car to run by putting the power wire to the coil directly on the battery and crossing the solenoid with a screw driver. I originally had the power going to the coil off of the original coil power wire in the car, but for some reson I have stopped getting any power to that when turning the key. Now when I turn the key my fuel pump dosen't cycle, and I don't get any warnig lights on the dash or anything. I am assuming it is a faulty ignition switch. I have a switch that was in my 80 that is in good shape and was wondering if this will work in the 84? Any help or suggestions would be apprectiated.

anybody?

The 80 switch will not work as a stock replacement for the 84. You would need a 84-85 switch. You could always make it a push button start. It wouldn't solve the issues with the dash lights though.

what is ti with the 80 switch that won't work? Is it the connectors or is it how it actually mounts to the column? I work at a local Ford dealer in the parts department. I chacked through one of our suppliers for a switch and the part number they list is the same for all of the first gens.

I did some more checking and you are correct. The ignition switch part number 66155 is the same. I was confusing the part you put the key in that mounts to the column. The ignition switch has the pigtail to make the electrical connection.

Yes but isn't the tumbler(that you put the key into) and the ignition switch all one piece in our cars? I don't think they can be seperated can they?

In this case no. The ignition switch, part number 66155, is the part that makes the electrical connection. You might want to download the parts manual from here:
