Ignition Question

Hey guys and gals,

I was looking at the Micro-Tech ECU (LT10S) that I want to buy in the near future. What I would like to know is how the coils that come with the package measure up to MSD or the DLIDFIS that I have been reading about on this site, or Kentetsu's Transistor Trick ignition? As far as ignition and power is concerned, will the coils from Micro Tech give equal or better gains than the above set-ups?

Thanks,

SE Lover

LOL, I'd hardly call the transistor trick "my setup". :) I've done a lot of the testing with it, and have run it with great success. The performance increase was simply unbelievable too. The only issue is that it tends to eat the ignitor on the 2nd gen coil pack every once in a while. Sometimes I could go for months without an issue, other times I'd only get a couple of weeks out of it.

GSLSEAddict was working on an improved design, but I haven't heard anything from him in quite a while....

Ok Kentetsu, you may not be the only to deserve all the glory, but let's face it, you have had a lot of feedback on this issue and seem to know an awful lot on the subject. I always enjoy reading your posts/replies.

But from your experience and from what you have heard from other guru's, what is the best ignition set-up, regradless of costs, that will give the most HP gains?

Thanks bro,

SE Lover

That's a loaded question. It all depends on what type of induction you are running. If you are staying NA, do the simple second gen direct fire coil mod, or just replace your stock coils with a good set of aftermarket ones and call it a day. If you are running a turbo setup, you need all the fire you can get. I have been running the transistor trick direct fire for about a year and a half. The problem that I think most people were having with frying the second gen ignitors, Kent and I have figured out. I am running 10 ohms, 10 watt resistance in line to the power feed on the second gen coil. My A/F ratio looks good on my blowthrough, but my plugs still look a little white from the strong fire I am getting from my ignition.

Thanks Bad 83. Please excuse my ignorance on this subject. I am running NA. Are you saying the the transistor trick ignition set-up is the same as the DLIDFIS, or are they two different set-ups? Also, would an MSD set-up give me the same results that you are getting with the TT?

BTW--Are you alarmed at all that your plugs are white?

I am NA as well, and all I did was throw on some MSD Blaster 2 coils and called it a day. More spark than stockies.

My A/F ratio is actually on the rich side. The whole plug tip isn't white. Just down in the center. This is a result of alot of cruising. If you are staying NA, do as Stu suggested and call it a day. The TT trick is a dual fire ignition. It using a secondary fire just behind the trailing spark to give you the most complete burn possible. The MSD is a single fire ignition.

I have a MSD 6AL box wired to a 2nd gen leading coil. Nothing for trailing. Talk about cleaning up the engine bay and a smooth idle! It also confuses the hell out of people when you have no wires on the dizzy and it still purrs like a kitten.

I was wondering what you were talking about. Dang man, snap some pics, I would like to see that!
