The lawnmower belt works great for me, and no, I don't believe you could get it from home depot or lowes. I ordered mine from: http://www.planopower.com.

Hum, the only part I can decipher is about the starter.
1) Are you sure the battery is good? Simple, but most common problem.
2) Got a good ground? a multimeter would be useful here.
3) Does the starter solenoid get really hot when attempting to start the car? the solenoid maybe fried casueing high resistance - and not putting the juice to the starter.

For the starter problem, check the fusible links on the strut post. That's where I had my starting problems.... well that AND I needed a replacement starter, but I had to replace the fusible before I found that out!

The belt is listed in the tutorial, and explained that without it you're likely to see your fan slip at high rpms because of the reduced tension of removing the air pump. If your local hardware stores don't stock it, they can usually order it and have it shipped within a day or three. This belt was originally suggested by Pinapple Racing and is the exact size/tension needed to not overstress the main pulley (and by extension the eccentric shaft) while giving the fan an extra redundant connection.
As for the starter, yes check the fusible links, but also check for proper connection to the starter - especially the extra plug on the top. If still no go, pull the starter (2 bolts + 1 for the wiring) and bring it to any local DAP or AutoZone - they'll test it for free.
I personally also recommend the AutoZone starter with the lifetime replacement warranty - I've already gotten one free out of the deal

Hey all, I am having the same starter/ignition problems. From the tests that I have run, it appears that my ignition switch is fine. I have a new starter on, but nothing, even no clicks when I turn the key. The battery seems to be giving good power.
My worry is that I am not connecting the starter correctly. There are two bolts coming out of it, and then that prong as well.
Help!
