I found a Big Brake Kit
I was looking around for further information on potential brake upgrades this last week. I was strongly considering putting together brakes custom, so I was looking for distributers of Brake parts when I ran across a brake kit that is made for the 1st gen RX-7. Looking at the information that they have online, I was curious, so I sent them an email, and started communication back and forth with them to get the skinny. Anyway, here's the details:
Price: $1399
Front Brake Kit
Using Wilwood 13" rotors (~8 lbs), Forged Narrow-mount 4-piston Dynalite Calipers (~3.2 lbs), Stainless Steel lines, pads, mounting hardware, etc.
They can make it with either bolt pattern. This kit would require 17" wheels, which I wasn't too excited about personally. Their rep said that they could use the 12" rotors, and that would allow 16" wheels, which I did like. I have a picture but I am having some issues getting onto my computer here at work. I'll try to attach it later.

Nice find. I'm cheap maybe I'll experiment on an old pair of disc brakes and just mill and shine them by myself. Mhe anyway if I had the cash I don't think I'd think twice nice find.

Hey, they're even the right COLOR!
That seems pretty expensive for what you get, and there's no further information about doing a matching kit for the rears. Most manufacturers do fronts and rears big brakes so that they can be matched - I'd be concerned that you'd spend $1400 on the fronts and then never get the car to balance again under braking until you buy a racing brake proportioning system.

Guru racing in Australia is currently developing a kit to bolt the second gen 4 spot calipers onto the series 3 rx-7. Should be much more affordable. I got that info off of the Australian boards. I'm holding out for it, Guru makes tough products.

There are several vendors with big overpriced prices for front big brake kits only out there. Nice find and all but $1399 for just the fronts is a rip. And 13" front rotors is WAYYYY too much brake for a light 1st gen rx7 unless you have the power of a 3 rotor turbo which few of us have.

It is a bit pricey, but compared to alot of other kits for other cars, it really isn't too bad.
Most brake kits are for fronts only. Rear brakes aren't nearly as important, because the harder you brake the more wieght shifts to the front. Most front engined cars have a 80%-90% front brake bias anyway stock, so with some good pads on -SE rotors in the rear, upgrading the fronts is really all thats needed.
IIRC, the kit you refer to DriveFast7, is $1800, not $1000. Still a nice kit if they'd ever get around to making one for the -SE.

If that wasnt JUST for the front, i'd be interested, but DAMN, www.rx7.com sells a FULL brake kit, w/ slotted or drilled rotors, hubs, all stainless brake lines, and their top shelf brake pads, all for $900, check it out:

haha i wonder why longduck likes the color. that car jumps off the screen and stabs my eyes with hues of the summer sun. i love it.

If you just want stock sizes, then you can buy cheapie offshore rotors, have them slotted and/or drilled, and make up your own stainless lines for probably well less than $900. Dunno if there are cheapie versions of the rotors available, but even regular aftermarket ones shouldn't be more than $300US for a set of 4...

For comparison's sake, Wilwood makes a rear 10.75" disc kit for the '68 Firebird for $618.99 and 11" fronts for a little over $700...this for a car that weighs in the 3400 lb territory so you know there has to be more of everything to make it live under heavy duty. Aerospace Components has a rear kit for $575, front for $650 and the rotor/caliper size on both require 15" or larger rims for the 'Bird. Again, it would seem like a kit for a 2500 lb. RX-7 would be cheaper, somehow. Neither of these cars is a high volume unit seen on the roads these days...
