I was just readin up on the rotary after an imbarassing insedent not to long ago, and was wondering why Mazda went back to a 12a, after haveing a 13b in the rx2/3, only to go back to the 13b in '84?

Just wanted to ask it was kinda wierd to me

 

Prolly fuel milage issues and emissions laws.

 

Rx7carl is right ... and the 13B wasn't in the Rx-2 or Rx-3 just the Rx-4, Cosmo and Rotary Pickup

 

Also the 13b's from the older cars were 4ports rather than 6 ports, correct??

 

i was to understand that the 12a was a cheaper engine to manufacture and mazda wanted to make a cheap affordable sports car.

 

nope, it was the fuel economy and emmissions, as said above.

 

Manntis and carl are right, it was because of fuel ecnomoy and emmisions that they started off wiht the 12a in the rx7's. All of the older 13bs were 4 port up untill they put them in the 84-85 SE's wich were the first 6 port 13b's as far as i know.
