How to Streetport

Ok there is in my hometown (WA) a thing called the highschool drags everyyear for the senior class. Its at the drag strip and they have races which i was told is based on engine size. Hmm... if i'm not mistaken a 1.2 litre engine rotary in a rx7 is quite a bit more powerful and faster than other cars with 1.2 L pistons. I'm a junior so i have till NEXT june. Im running my rx stock with just RB presile and Streetable RB headers. I still have the auto tranny... ill get to that later. Anyway we have a nice shop in our school and i have plenty of free time. What i need to know is how to streetport an engine. I dont have the cash to do a rebuild, but the engine only has 20k since the last rebuild anyway. So heres what need.
1. Plans to streetport
2. Can i do this w/o rebuilding?
3. Can someone give me a Bridgeported 12a and manual tranny for kicks and giggles?

yo have to tear down
but a gasket kit is all you have to replace

vastly generalizing things, in road racing you multiply the rotary engine's displacement by 2.0 to come up with it's piston power equivalent.

so a 1.1L 12a x 2.0 = 2.2L comparable power in simple terms.

Yeah, I've never seen any race class where the rotory wasn't doubled to be fair. Sorry, but you're probably racing a 2.4l motor.

they multiply by 1.8 at my dragstrip, I understand 2 but not 1.8.

Ok i understand the displacement ratings, but th epurpose of my post was to find out how to streetport an engine. How much is a gasket kit?

answers to both questions can be found here: http://mazdatrix.com/faq/porting.htm

i think a complete gasket set is around $180.

well for porting, im assuming you know the basics of porting and what a streetport is but just dont know the details of performing it. im not an expert so if i leave anything out or get someting wrong someone who knows just correct me.

for tools you will need an air or electric high speed grinding tool. you will need a variety of bits, carbide cutting bits for starting to remove the aluminum fast and get the port shape. after that some grinding stones of varying grit to smooth out the port. for beginners, the best way to go is to get porting templates for the intake and exhaust from RB or mazdatrix or whereever. it will be a piece of aluminum with the port shape scribed in it. you have to cut out the port on the template before you use it, which gives you a little practice. the templates will come with instructions on how to place them and mark the housings. also, i think many people round the edge of the exhaust port to reduce the chance of the apex seal getting caught on it.

you can find a gasket set on EBAY for about $90.00 from atkins rotary
