How to remove AC evaporator
 

I am tying to track down a leak in my AC. I put some dye in the AC system and I could not find a leak under the hood. So I decided to look at the evaporator. How do you ge the stupid thing out? I got the blower out, but I am stuck on the evaporator.

You don't need to remove the blower, the evap coil houseing has a clamp on the duct connection on each side of it.
Then , 3 bolts, or nuts hold the houseing to the firewall.
You also have to RECOVER your refrigerant so you can disconnect the 2 hoses that lead to it on the other side of the firewall.
From what I recall, you can't open the houseing without removeing it.
So you can't really look at the evap without loseing your refrigerant.
Try running it and collect the condensate water from the drainhose under the car to examine it for dye.

I took a lookat mine and it does split in half , top and bottom, but it would be a bitch to get back together.
If you were to losen it from the firewall, you my be able to get at the clips in the back.
There also is a small third pc that fits around the feon lines, it slides between the 2 halves.

Your leak may be at the compressor shaft seal, seems to be very common on our cars/sanden comps. Is the compressor clutch oily, or clean and dry?

do you have to remove the dash to do this, mine is leaking to., freon is heavier than air so it will come out of the drain line on evap box, if you have a leak detector it will pick up on it right away.
