How much tranny oil?

Just like the title says.

85 SE, my factory shop manual says 1.7L the manual for my car says 2.0L?

I put 1.7L and she runs fine, shifts much better now as well.

On a side note I'm pretty happy because I finally have no leaks. Oil cooler and lines all fixed up, did the oil pan gasket. Only thing that is leaking a little bit is the drain plug on the rad (soon to be fixed). And soon I will be able to re-seal my driveway.

fill 'er up until it starts to leak out -

or put your finger in there to see how close it is to the lip.

When I saw the tittle, I was going to ask if you had downloaded the FSM, but no you had to suprise me and find 2 sources for your info instead. :bigthumb: Since you can't buy .7 qt, you have to buy 2. The FSM states to fill until it reaches the top of the fill hole and use a finger to check fill level. That is the deciding factor on fill amount.

Thanks guy's I will top it up tomorrow. I think 2L is correct as when I put 1.7L in nothing came out of the fill hole.

I just found it odd that I have two different amounts listed.

Are you putting the oil in from the side of the transmission or through the shifter hole?

AdamAnt 07-04-06 08:42 AM

Side of engine, I didn't even know you could put it in throught the shifter hole.

Filling through the shifter only works on the SA trannys, all the later ones are side fill.
