How much have you spent on RUST repair?
I'm curious what everyone has spent to fix rust problems. I've only had bin rust on one of my cars and all the other rust I've dealt with has been relatively small.

$0.00 :D
|
$0.00
Both cars are rust free as far as I've seen |
bastards, i only wish my car was rust free. Minnesota is terrible........
|
my car is completely rust free... probly cause its been parked in a garage the last 6 years...
|
rust = 0
|
No rust: New Mexico is the promised land for cars :D
|
What's this "rust" thing you speak of?
Perhaps you should partake of a more temporate climate :) |
$400. Thats with me cutting out the rust in the wheel wells myself and autobody guy doing the sheet metal and welding. My wells where not that bad either.

Take a look at my icon lol
I haven't spent too much, but I've done a lot of fiberglass work. |
The money isnt the biggest issue, its more about the time i have put into it... And thats a lot!
|
I have about 460 into the Lincoln mig welder, 10 dollars into cutoff blades for my grinder, and about ten dollars in sheet metal so far. by the time I get seam sealer, undercoating and paint, all said and done it should be 500 out of pocket and a bunch of time. I love doing stuff like this though.

only a few bucks, i only had rust around the hatch base.. fixed it all up :-)

I spent some on my first RX-7, but nothing on my current one.
This one has never been winter driven, and Garage stored :D I just did some quick and dirty work around the Left Rear Wheel Well and the Door Corners. All said and done did not cost more then $200.00 |
GavinJuice, I hear you man, I have been debating on whether to fix mine up or start something fresh, MN is a crazy place for car!
Mine was even store in a heated garage and well cared |
Prevention is better than cure
No rust in the car. It was undersealed new, and about every three months the bottom is steam cleaned.

Rust!
Rather not talk about it. Since you asked. I have about over 6g's invested in rust repair and I still have some. I am totally unsure what to do at this point but spend more money. I have a uncle who is good at body work. He is going to finish up the rest of the job.

About $20 for bondo and paint, plus some scrap sheet metal and a Saturday afternoon fixed the bin rust on my 85 GSL. Here's some pictures of the repair and what it looks like after several months and about 15,000 miles.

i got my 85 gs 12A from this guy who left the keys in his car with a dead batt, some little punks tryed to seal the car but with not power they just made off with the key so he did not have any keys to start it. so it satt there in the sun for 3 years, the only rust was the right fender that some one backing in to and the paint was gone on the little courner/ the hatch drains where pluged and the watter seaped in a crack and rusted the back shock cover plates, and some just under that grill plate under the windshield watter satt there and inded up making some holes under the tar so it leaks near the ECU in bad rain but other then that no more then 1/4fot of rust. the car came from arisona, in 95 inported to noth of canada, and i dont think it was ever winter driven, now that i have it. it will nerver be any ways.

I haven't had to fix any rust yet. I have had the bins out, and there is a couple spots about nickle size that I need to repair. This will get done in a couple months, and will cost nothing but a little time. Car came from the DFW / north Texas area.

Here are some better pictures of what I my wheel wells used to look like. Pretty nasty. Currently I have all of that patched with fiberglass.
If you look in the 2nd picture you can see that a part of the lower link mount isn't really attached to anything lol. I still have to fix that properly. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...rwheelwell.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...swheelwell.jpg |
HOLEEEEE CRAP!!!
And I thought mine were bad... I got CP to completely rebuild the rusty areas with fresh metal... BETTER than new:D |
