How Much Have You Put Into Your Rex?

Was just reading the poll on how much people payed for their rx-7s, and what condition the cars were in. I was then looking at most people's profiles, and realized "Wow, they must have spent a lot of money on their car!" I am curious now as to how much everyone has spent.

Sudox_E 10-26-03 09:55 PM

I've put in a solid $7k for everything, and it's still climbing!

wagondriver69 10-26-03 10:27 PM

You should have had less than $500 or $100...

:peace:

That is generally included in "less than $1000"

Although, your category would have fit my car better!

don't even have a FB yet and I've $1000 spent carb parts, black interior, flex fan, and a few other goodies...

bliffle 10-27-03 04:53 AM

I spent $3700 in the last 1.5 years. Defered maintenance, since I spent nothing for the first 18 years I owned it.

I have about 1800 so far into it. I have a long ways to go before it is road worthy. I am actually thinking about buying another car to put everyhing I have done onto because of the extent of work still required before I can drive it. It is killing me watching it sit there.

bliffle 10-27-03 09:36 AM

I also have about $500 in the near-pristine 85GSL I got last year, mostly for a clutch.

The red 83 I got for free this year has cost me about $200, but I expect to spend a total of about $1000 on it. It runs good and looks better now that I painted it (in the driveway: still needs to be rubbed out), but it needs a successful smog check. I guess I'll take it to a good 7 tuner with the equipment to tune it right, and I suppose that'l cost me $200.

I got new rear shocks for it on ebay for $25.50, inc shipping.

Paid only $100.00 for the car. Got over $1,000 in parts and it still runs like shit. The Joy!

French RX7 10-27-03 12:30 PM

About 3500$ CAN so far, includes purchase price of car and parts car. I estimate this car will cost about 10000$ CAN, including a rebuilt engine and new paint. Read my sig...

coldy13 10-27-03 02:15 PM

I've got $3000 into mine, including buying the car :)

Lee Lyons 10-27-03 02:29 PM

Got about 4k in now and by the summer will have probably another 6k into it.

Northern 7 10-27-03 02:34 PM

About $5.5K not including the price of the car - all aftermarket - no repairs. Money Pit:(

K-Tune 10-27-03 03:19 PM

just money for gas and oil..no repairs, no upgrades. so around $700..total...lmao

Tom 10-27-03 05:33 PM

A hair over $1,200 for my mods (excluding cost of car). I bought the car this spring and added the weber, rb dual exhaust, BBS wheels, kumhos, front spoiler and lights, regulator and pump. I'm basically done for a while. I want to add the R&P kit so that'll ratchet it up a bit...

I figure a car oughta cost $1000 a year, amortizing initial cost and repairs. So, for my original blue 83, cost me $12,000 in the showroom and $3700 in last 2 years, for a total $15,700 over 20 yrs, for $785 per year. Not bad. The silver 85GSL I bought last year was $1700 purchase, plus about $500 repairs for a total $2200, so it's cost me about $2000 per year, but it looks like it's good for several years in the shape it's in. If I total it all together I get $17,900 for 20 yrs of use, both cars, for an annual cost of $895. that's pretty good.

Any car will cost you money. If you buy a new car for $20,000, say, every 3 years, and the tradein is about $12,000, that's $8000 for 3 years use: about $2700 per year.

If you buy a wreck to drive to work or school every day, and you pay, say $500, you can expect regular minor costs of about $500 per year, with a major cost of $2000 evry 3 years (blown gasket, trans bearing, etc.) so your annual cost will be about $1100 per year.

So it seems to me the best thing is to buy a decent car at a decent price, one that has low parts cost and relatively easy repair. I've found that to be the RX-7. Others tell me Toyotas are like that too, but the price of used Toyotas has been so high it discouraged me. I don't want to pay $5000 for a used 10 yr old sedan with 120k. I can buy a lot of 7s in excellent shape for $3000.

about 6k well spent.

about $1500 left to spend.

Felix Wankel 10-27-03 09:21 PM

I spent like 4500 on mine and then sold it for next to nothing.

Makenzie71 10-27-03 11:02 PM

hahaha...just incase you guys ever feel you're putting a lot of money into the car without recieving the results you want:

MelloYello on Supraforums has invested well over $40,000 into his MKIII supra and it doesn't run...at all...
