How do ya remove the venturi?
 

I just bought a weber 48 IDA (yes the newer made in Spain version) carb. How do you remove the venturies so that I can change those and get at the idle jet.

Oh and while I'm at it...which book/manual do people recommend that will cover the newer version of the carb so that I can read up on this stuff without having to bother people with my many questions on the carb.

All the jets are under the little mesh cover on top of the carb between the air horns. The idle jets press into the bottom of the idle jet holder which screws into the body of the carb. The two shorter ones are the idle jet holder and idle jet. The two longer ones are the air correction jet, emulsion tube and main fuel jet assembly.

To change the venturis you need to remove the top of the carb. The venturis can be found under the booster venturis which press into the carb throat.

What I am having trouble removing is the auxilary venturi. It only moves up a couple of millimeters and then stops. It seems to be held in place by the brass plug on the side of the carb body. The outside of this plug is completely smooth and there doesn't seem to be a way of removing it. As far as the jet is concerned, I meant the pump jet that points into the venturi. Mine doesn't have a screw holding it place. It is held in place with an 0-ring. There's another pump jet inside of the tube of the auxilary venturi (the idle circuit?). That's the one that I want to get at but I can't get the venturi tube lifted out of the carb body.

K...I figured it out. Now I feel stupid. Oh well, live and learn, right? Removing the venturi is simple...pull. They're held in place with with a single leaf spring.
Why is there a brass plug where the spring seats against? Can't wait to get my manual...

Does anybody know how important the length of the venturi tube is? The one is a little 'chewed' on the tip. Probably due to bad casting. I want to grind off the tips and refinish them. It'll probably shorten the overall length by 2mm...maybe three.
