How to check fuel condition
I’m going to be starting the car I bought for the first time in two years and I was curious if there’s an easy way to check the condition of my fuel to make sure it hasn’t semi gooed up

If it has been the car for two years, it is gooed up. Get rid of it and start with fresh gas please. Don't risk messing up your carburetor.

i just go by smell. if it smells like gasoline its ok. if it doesn't its not. 2 year old gas, you probably don't wont to go racing on, but its probably good enough to start the thing on.
there is usually a drain plug on the bottom of the tank |
If its the '79 you list there is NO drain, so yes, tank needs to be dropped to be properly cleaned. A good rad shop can do this for you.
Unless very little fuel inside to start with, I would first remove as much gas as possible thru the Fuel Sender Unit port on the front driver-side of the tank. Access behind plastic panel you see in rear of rear L wheel well. Trying to drop a tank with a lot of fuel is a real handful once its released from the straps!! Stu A 80GS AZ |
