how big of an exhaust?

As most of you have probably figured out now through my noob posts I'm new to the rotary game. I've done piston engines for a long time but rotaries are a new ball game. Now my quesiton is how big of an exhaust can I go and still keep the power band reasonable, about 5-8000?

Check This out...

Clicky Clicky

This is a good place to start.

[EDIT]Ok so you want to look at the exhaust systems to start...

The link was suposed to take you there, but it turns out it did not sory.[/EDIT]

The other thing to keep in mind is that back pressure is a rotoy killer...

Good luck

well I already have the racing beat header, and a 2.5" header back with a cat(stupid shop "had" to put one on). I was just wondering if I could go to say 3" and still have a good powerband within 5-8000 rpms.

Correction: LAWNMOWER ON CRACK.

BigJim 01-15-04 05:43 PM

Its more of a chainsay in a tin room noise

I have a weber 45dcoe with stock exhaust and it sounds like a beast of a lawnmower...i kinda like it though, it's more of an aquired taste.

Haha, no way, it's a 100$ cat. I'm just going to weld a pipe to put in there.

And yea, the car does sound like a lawnmower, or a dirtbike. But I don't care how it sounds and after a while you find it soothing and nice sounding. I just want performance!! So any ideas on how big I can make it?

majority of the guys I know are using pipes between 2 to 2.25. Im using dual 2.25 to a center inlet/outlet 2.5 magnaflow.

fitzwarryne 01-15-04 08:04 PM

wackyracer-does that mean dual all the way back to the muffler with no cat or presilencer?

Siraniko 01-15-04 10:21 PM

dual all the way into one muffler. I cant remember when it was intalled but I had to go back to the muffler shop because my wife hated the noise. Installed appx 36 inches glasspacks which only lasted less than 2 weeks. My wife and neighbors dont like it but I dont care. Well im a little considerate. I have been pushing the RX-3 into the street to warm it up.

Now with those dual mufflers you still have good "streetable power"? Where did you see the most gains?

I have a 2.5" exhaust straight back into a "turbo muffler" which exits into a dual exhaust setup. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner. I actually like it more than all of my previous LOUD cars.

that's supposed to be dual pipes into one muffler at the end.
