How to adjust Mixture on Nikki
How do i do this? My car is running really rich and I dont like it. it's bad enough on fuel already. :P
|
what is really rich? do you have a gauge hooked up or are you going by smell and fuel economy?
|
You can adjust the idle mixture, but going beyond that you are getting in deep. Shouldn't really need adjustment beyond idle mixture anyway.
You can find instructions and information at www.sterlingmetalworks.com . |
Honestly, just going off of fuel economy and smell. I have adjusted idle mixture do where i like it, but now it's idling high.. around 15-1600rpm

If you're worried about your gas mileage, get that idle back down to 750. If you can't get it to drop back down then you either have a vac leak or something binding the linkage.
Also, these cars run rich from the factory, especially without mods. Changing the mixture above idle involves changing jet sizes. If you really want to dig in that far just for a little better mileage, I would recommend enlarging the primary main air bleeds. |
...& remember, if you go too lean you risk detonation, which is deadly to apex seals.

its supposed to idle at 750?! :/ the entire time i have owned his car it has idled between 1300 and 1600. Which is the idle adjust screw on the nikki? Is it the same as the mixture screw? I feel like a complete n00b right now lol

Yeah that's definitely too high. For 83, the idle speed screw is the harder one to find - driver's side, toward the rear of the carb near the throttle linkage. The mixture screw is on the driver side as well, dead center and much easier to spot.

there is also sterlings method about adjusting the idle in the FAQ's
|
i adjusted it as much as I could with the idle screw, got it to about 1100rpm, then did my rats nest removal, and then it idled at about 500rpm, so i bumped it up to 800rpm
