Hot pipes ( Glowing)

I went out to start the 7 tonight and while looking under the hood I noticed that the header was glowing. Now this is what's happening, when I first started it up both pipes had a light glow to them, then the front pipe stopped and the rear pipe got brighter. It' s got RB header on it and stock carb. I put new plugs and wires on it before the snow. What could be the culprit?

running lean or timing too retarded.

check timing, mixture and for vacuum leaks.

I had a vac leak in my 7 which led to a white hot glowing pipe. not good in my opinion. The vac leak got so bad that it idled really really rough (like a super mean bridgey.. coz its just a nice bridgey atm) and every BRAP made a blue flame shoot out the exhaust. Damn i wish i had recorded that coz it loked cool

its either leaning out hardcore, or your cat is clogged, give you still run the cat...

No cats, full RB exhaust. I think it's time for carb replacement. Tried to adjust and no change checked vac lines all intact. The motor only has 25,000 miles on it, but the guy I got it from used the old carb so that could be part of the problem, maybe?

Was the choke open or closed?

IIRC if the choke is closed you will see this type of thing untill the engin is warm and the choke closes...

Then every thing goes back to normal

Verify that you did not lose your lead ignition, that will cause a hot exhaust and its easy to eliminate if that's not it. Good luck....:)

If only one pipe is glowing, or showing hotter that the other, then it is probably an
ignition issue with that rotor. That is where I would start the troubleshooting.

If you can get the 'glow' even on both, then check timing and fuel.

lean or timing issue...

does it glow when you let the car sit there and idle?
