hot!!!
so why would my car overheat from a mere revving and run for about 1/2 mile???
i admit, i hit it pretty hard.. but not hard enough to overheat it!!! |
themostat sticking? water pump shot ? crud in the bottom of radiator? gauge wrong?
|
You hit it hard when the engine's cold? That's the fast way to blow an engine... never get on 'em until the engine's fully warmed up.
|
how can u tell when u have overheated an engine?
|
I don't know about everyone else, but the two times I let the engines overheat was the two times they both died. One went up in smoke ala Formula 1 and the other just stopped turning and never started again.
|
ummm.... why do you assume the engine was cold?
it idled for a good 10 minutes before i even hit the road... enough time for any wankle to heat up... also.. it was my thermostat... here's a question... which one do you guys use... the 194 degree or the 180 degree thermo??? |
I just changed my thermostat (180 degrees) 'cause my car was getting a little too hot.
(first notch AFTER half) But, it's still doing the same thing. I'm pretty sure the waterpump is fine. And i'm gonna put in a new(er) rad soon. (My rad has seen better days) I really hope that works!!!!! Anyways Joe, I would use a 180 for the summer. and 194 for winter. My $0.02 Vince |
In the really really hot climates Ive heard of people not running a thermostat at all, especially when running th AC 100% the time...
My 80 was BAD about overheating especially with the air on, I could be traveling at 60mph and it still would get very hot. I dont mean overheating as in REALLY HOT, im talking 3/4 of the guage then Id kick A/C off...Then the temp would drop fast , kick Ac back on and BAM she was hotter then hell agaian, so I tossed the thermostat, still got warm but no where near where it was before... |
