Hood Pin Install
Thinking of adding some hood pins to be track car and putting them where the little rubber hood stops are normally however there doesnt appear to be a way to get at the underside to mount the pins. Am I stuck taking the fenders off to get at it or is there an easier way?

hood pins would be stupid on a car that the hood opens forwards...

Not sure on what you'd have to take off to get access to that.. but aren't hood pins just so your hood doesn't fly open? and would it not be faster at the track to pull the hood release, walk 2 steps and lift the hood. With pins, you'd have to exit the car, walk around to both sides of the car, then back to the drivers to use the prop rod.:scratch:

I see.. that makes sense if you have a cage in the way, and I didn't mean to turn you off from the forum. Without the extra info, it did seem as if you were adding hood pins to a stock forwarding hood. You never know!

you can try to get in where the hood pins would go buy just removing the plastic inner fender. I had my drivers fender off a couple of moths ago but I can't remember how much room is in there. I think the door hinges are in the way of that corner but I'm not sure.

Just put one centered pin on the rear edge... even "lighter," faster to open, and you don't lose the rubber corner stoppers that keep your hood from flapping in the breeze.
Plus you can access the underside of that area by pulling the wiper valence. Or you could fab a small bracket for the pin to bolt where the latch was, and avoid drilling the body at all. |
For my car, I drilled the hole where the hood bumpers are and welded a nut to the coachwork, Using a second nut as a jamb nut and it works fine. Passed tech anywho!
For the two nay-sayers above...some racing clubs/rules mandate the factory hood latches be removed and pins be installed in its place. Cage in the way or not, streetable car or not. |
