HOLY exhaust can it cause......
 
today drivin to the drag strip i heard somthin fall off it has to do with the exhaust because it got louder and sounds like a vw bug mixed with a v8 and a crossbreaded lawn mower


on the way home i experienced
no power from secondays just made the lawn mower noise

heated up really qwick had to pull over 3 times then i relized the heater helps cool the engine so i fryed after that:)

now the engine is bucking like a bronco but it idels kinda sweet

iv checked everything it should run smoth like it was 4hrs ago

so can the holy exhaust or maybe a blocked cat cause this?
i cant find big holes but there was already 2 qaurter sized holes in the cat which was actually quite than it is now

I had a lot of strange problems when there was a hole in my exhaust between the manifold and cat. just getting that put back together seemed to fix a lot of strange symptoms

another simple solution..get rid of the cats, run a straight pipe from header to muffler....that will give you good sound!

Yeah get the exhaust fixed and then see how many problems that cures.

Yeah... I need to get rid of my rats nest too, just have to get the time...

Wierd. I cant imagine a hole causing that many issues. I say just straight pipe the cat and remove your smog BS.

You may have more than one issue. Almost sounds like one of the cats plugged, then the pressure blew a hole. Probably still have a restriction, even with the hole, time to get rid of the cats.

Do NOT do this under any circumstances!

The exhaust shop forked things up on my car and actually did that. So right now, the car has headers to straight pipe to stock muffler and it sounds like CRAP! It's bloody loud and sounds like a thousand homeless people banging on tin cans at the same time.

However, the car has never performed better. When I open the secondaries, I can barely hear myself think, but the car takes off like a bat outta hell!

Freeing up exhaust doesn't seem to me like it could cause the problems you're describing, but if it's just a leak and you've got something clogged (like a cat) then that could make a difference. Then you're dealing with less flow instead of more.

Hmmm, sounds more like an engine problem than an exhaust problem. Besides clogging the cats, which happens over a long period of time, nothing in the exhaust would cause such a drastic change in how the engine runs. A little more information would help out a lot actually. How hard is the car to start? How does it drive under normal conditions? Does the car die or nearly die when you let off the gas from 1500 rpm or more? Mabey a sound clip would help out. But judging from the description of the sound, it sounds like you lost an apex seal. They can go out with a BANG!. When my 12a lost a seal, it was a loud bang and then the engine ran like crap.

Oh ya, my exhaust got louder as well when the seal went. Kinda strange actually. Cool sound though as I drove the car home.

A blocked cat or collapsed muffler will cause all kinds of engine problems,much like what your experiencing.
The backpressure caused by the exhaust system being blocked up will cause overheating,poor acceleration and exhuast dillution of the air/fuel charge,which effects how the engine runs at all speeds.

If you dont need to smog the car,then get any and all catylitic convertors off the car!You can always adress sound quality and cat replacement later.For now,you just dont wanna blow your engine up,right!?
If the cats are original or a cheap replacement,they have probably failed and either turned sideways inside the case or the broken pieces traveled back to the muffler and got stuck in the baffles.Either case will cause extreme backpressure and loss of power.....its the car equivelent of an asthma attack.

I have had cats block on Crown Vics which actually blew valves in the heads on two occasions, a blocked cat will totally restrict your engine, no exhaust flow, no power.....if you don't shit, you die...

im currently changing back to stock ignition if nothin chages ill take the sparkys out and turn it over hopin itl make the woosh woosh woosh sound
maybe when its cooled down ill just remove the cat and try get the stuff out i heard a orger drill bit will be sweet

ill give more detailed symptons soon once if finished styock ignition

Drop the cats and fire it up, if the problems go away, it's a plugged exhaust system. Reverting to the stock ignition would be a good idea for the test.

its back to stock ignition
i let the cat out of the bag what a pita
no change still rockin hard

i turned the motor with the starter woth no sparkplugs sounded sweet

but when i turned with my hard it was so freakin easey i think a seals gone i got 2out a 3 wooshs but if i turned it faster i got 3 good wooshs and if i turned it slow ild get 1 good wooshs im not to sure on the compression side i have a spare sa engine luckly if it is a apex seal im goin for a drive with no cat hehe

You should get a whoosh evey half turn of the e-shaft.

They arent hard to turn by hand.Rotaries are pretty low compression and there arent many moving parts providing friction resistance.....

If it's crapping out at 4-5k rpm, most likely the exhaust is plugged. I had a member bring his SA up for some work and his system was plugged. Took forever to get to 6k in first, wouldn't go past that.

From the looks of your spagetti ignition mod, no offense, there may have been a fault in the wiring and the exhaust plugged, and blew out at the same time.

hehe it was really bad i know. no offence takin
it was a trail before i redid it to a finished product:)

well the plugs were covered in carbon so somthin wasnt right with my mod alto it worked great for a while:)
its back to stock ignition as i stated above.
the cat was pretty heavey too felt like the same weight as my 2-3ton trolly jack

hehe i had ear pluggs for the ride put it was still over powering loud hope i get a ride to work tomoro it would be a pita to drive to work

during the ride i tryed flooring it but is still the same loss of power
i hadnt takin the thing before the cat off yet should i remove it too? it looks like a miniture cat and has a hole in the side too:(

as you stated in that last post its the same trouble when i drive in first it gets to the same revs and starts gurgling :squint:

Time for headers. The 2 bulges before the main cat are precats, they can be as restrictive and plug just like the main one can. If it has a hole blown in it and it's not from rust, figure on it being plugged. If you can't afford headers atm, then have a straight pipe made , actually curved, from the exhaust manifold to where the main cat ended. No need fo a pre-silencer doing it this way. It's pretty quiet and will have a decent note. If the exhaust still seems restricted, the crap that came loose in the cats has lodged in the muffler.

A broom handle cut in half is your friend if you take the exhaust apart and ram it through the cat and from the back of the muffler to the tips. Empty the cat and muffler of anything. It'll be louder but the plugging problem will most likely be gone. That or a snake used in plumbing. If you can feed that through the headers/downpipe, pre-cat, and cat as well as the muffler.
