I have never come across a set of bolts soooo damn tight in my life. I was crawling under my car (barely...) and I found the nuts that hold the heat sheild on, and I was going to remove them... up until I realized that I need some sorta drill to tap them out... I used everything.... two hands, a foot/leg, a larger wrench. Those boogers are gonna stay on there for now... DAMN.

I removed mine for weight reduction :) That thing weighs a lot. Tin snips work pretty good too..

Also an angle grinder works pretty good too.. :)

get some pb. it will eat through the rust and shit in a heartbeat. i've used about a can on my teardown.

break out the blue wrench and some goggles.

here in michigan its not a dificult task to acomplish
if you do it that way you dont have to worry about the holes.

Spray the bastards with WD-40 or some kind of penetrating oil when everything is warm but not hot. Let it sit for a couple of hours and then smack the head with a hammer and an extension with a small head (I'm thinking 3/8" or 1/4") a couple of times. Spray a little bit more WD-40 on the stubborn wretches. 10 minutes later, it's time for another wack and then get a six point socket on it with a 1/2" ratchet or better yet a high torque air-ratchet. I'm assuming you don't have air tools, though. With the socket and ratchet in place, give it a pull to see if it will go. If not, don't force it, you'll strip the head. Take the ratchet off, seat the socket squarely on the bolt head and hammer it on. Now get the ratchet back on the extension and then smack the handle of the ratchet to break the threads loose from the rusty welds they have formed for the past two decades. You're trying for sharp explosive force delivered quickly. That is tried after the hard pull...good luck!:cool:

there is a nother type of spray, i donot remember the name, that is made specially for that.. liquid wrench (or something like that). works great... my old exhaust was rusted as hell when i took it out, so i was using that stuff all over the place

It is, in fact, named Liquid Wrench. There are a host of others out there, but I would trust either of the two mentioned because they have been working on their two products continuously for decades tuning them. I can't believe any of the newcomers could have the experience or database these two old-school mfg.s have accumulated in that time. Kinda like the Highlander with his enormous wealth built over hundreds of years...:cool:

Its called PB Blaster, Pep-boys/auto zone should have it, someone else said Wal-mart. Find it and get it. Using it is the only way to see how amazing the shit is...

what i was meaning to say was that it was like liquid wrench, but idonot think that it was actually that brand name.. on well. what ever the stuff was, it definatly worked.

Use something, and get a breaker bar... heh. Then again, when i was helping a friend put a new exhaust on his 300z, he asked me to try to get the bolds loose. Well leavethe story at that factthat it broke the bolt off, and that the exhaust was welded on... heh.

Man, I feel you...I tried on Saturday to get my cat off my car...I was gonna hollow it out...But it was freaking salt rusted on! :mad: Try as I did, I got nowhere with the damned thing. I'll try these suggestions...Hopefully they're as good as what you all say, because I'm not really interested in cutting things off yet.

Is the object here to keep it without destroying it? Or just take it off and trash it... Get a pair of tins snips and start cutting, or use a 4" angle grinder and grind the bolt tops off.. If your gonna resue it, once you get the head off the threads come out with needle nose pliers. just replace em.. :D

Go to Academy sporting goods. In the hunting section is a product called "Break Free CLP". It is available in a squeeze bottle and aerosol can. It is the best penetrant I have used to date. Much better than WD-40 or Liquid Wrench.

1) name calling is not needed
2) often that is the quickest way if you don't care about the bolt or there is a nut at the other end.

if you care, then i agree with mar3. only i would insert "heat it with a heat gun" after every step.
