holley/edelbrock V.S stock??

First off I am a newbie to the rx-7. I have a 1982 gsl with the 4 barrel/lsd rear. Here's the Q.......
Can you run a edelbrock or holley (spread bore)on my stock intake. Does a different carburetor work well with a stock intake and has it ever been done and will it bolt on??? I was thinking of a brand new edelbrock or holley. The Rb intake comes with a 465 cfm carb and I can get just the carburetor from summit for 380. I was leaning towards the 500 cfm edelbrock since I have used them on v-8's(bigger cfm) before with good results and besides that there only 274 bucks new v.s 380 for the holley. Or would it be best to just keep the stock one. I work at a machine shop and have access to all machine,so I could build a carb adapter if I had to. Basically.....like I said,I need to know if any one has ever tried this on a stock intake or if it has any pro's v.s the stock? Thanks for any input/info!
