Holley Carburetor Help!!!
 

I have a holley carburetor for my '84 gsl...what i need to know is...what all do i need to do...what and where do things need to be hooked up (pics appreciated). I have a msd electronic fuel pump with a mallory fuel pressure regulator and i have removed my rats nest...where do all the vacuum lines go...how do i hook up the linkage...(i have the racing beat throttle cable plate thingy :P)

ANY AND ALL HELP IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

I am using 2 old threads to set up one now. first is " budget holley setup questions" the other is "tuning holley 600 for street ported 12a" I think you will find your answers between them. Good luck

So these are not racing beat setup? Just curious? I have a RB setup on mine, I could probably help some, what all do you need?

need to know some things about what kinda holley it is...... 465cfm, 600cfm, mech secs, vac secs, dbl pumper, etc... you really shouldnt have any vaccum lines. only the one for the brake booster.

what about the dizzy? and its not a racing beat holley...but i think its the 600cfm model...i wish i knew more about the carburetor itself...

geez my holley setup on my repu has 1 friggin vacuum line... the brake booster... then it has the OMP lines both going into a bung on it... thats it...

exactly. when i had my holley setup it was the same way. you dont need to run the vaccum advance. you'll just lose a mpg or two. :D

i'm probly gonna hook up the vacuum advance on my FB(until i turbo it of course lol)... figure it might be worth something

So what do i do with the other vacuum lines...like from the dizzy...cap them?

Just leave them. don't plug them or anything. Look at the top of the carb and get the model # then go to holley.com and see what you got.. once we know what carb/eng configuration we can suggest jet sizes..

Plug the power vavle. Pre mix, make sure you can change out the secondary jets, it has to have a secondary metering block. It is good to have center hung floats, so their is no bog cornering. Jets sizes should probably be in the high 60's. I have always found that richer is better than leaner, when the idle is lumpy the engine runs better with my experience! When idleing, black smoke means the idle is rich, when mine ran right I would have some black smoke at idle. If you have vac secs, use the screw trick to make the secs mech. I have never used the RB throttle plate, just have used a alternator bracket bolted to the engine than used a small nut and bolt to hold the throttle cable to the carb.

On my Holley set up the best 1/8th mile time I got was 9.5 with a basically stock port 12a. It was supposed to have been street ported but it was not considered a street port by me when I opened the engine the end of the intake cycle was slightly smoothed out, looked like it was done with a file (pathetic) and the exhaust was opened. I think I had the Holley tuned well considering the crap port job that was done to my engine. At the time I was blameing the Holley, because the guy who built the engine supposedly knows what he is doing HA, Ha, ha ! ! ! That is a good one ! ! !

the carb is a 4160, (ive told you that before bro!) And i've already told him how to hook it up, but he insists its "different"

4160 is what I use. Got to get the secondary metering block, plug the power valve and use the screw trick to convert to mechanical secs. That should be a good start . . .
