high oil pressure maybe gauge HELP!!!

ok so i noticed teh oil pressure gauge at 110 when at idle maybe even higher when driving so one what could cause this and two how do you install a new gauge (autometer probly)

Rx-7Doctor 09-30-04 09:25 PM

First you need to perform a oil pressure test asap, if your pressure is at tha
t, which is unlikely you are going to have major engine problems, most common failure is sending unit. rx7doctor

You can pick upa oil pressure test kit at any auto parts store just get the correct adapter.

Rx-7Doctor 09-30-04 10:12 PM

Nope, but can happen with a defective filter. I really need to check my spelling before i hit enter. On the last post icame up with a new word, doctorrage,? You think i was drinking or something, maybe i should be. It was supposed to say at any garage. rx7doctor

Rusty Shackleford 10-03-04 08:10 PM

Before you mucking about tapping the oil lines and such to install a guage. Check the wires going to your oil sending unit, the fuses for your guages, the conditon (color) of your oil, and the oil filter.

I'm not sure if its a no-current or a short, but the guages peg high if there is a problem with the sender. Check for pinched wires, loose connections etc.

Some aftermarket guages use a sender, others use a direct tap into an oil line with pressure. From what I hear, the Mazda guage and sender is fairly accurate so it may be better to replace with OEM parts than to use aftermarket ones.

Your sending unit is located on the left side of engine block, this is seen as sitting in the drivers seat. It is below the oil filter about 6 inches below and looks like a big bell. rx7doctor

i cleaned the connector and that gold bell thing but still nothing happened
